Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 2-3-- "Harry dreamed a lion . . . the next night Harry dreamed a hippopotamus." When his dream animals start turning up in the park next door, the boy decides to confess his role in their appearance. No one believes him except the park gardener, who encourages Harry to dream the animals home. It works with a giraffe, but April, a camel, steadfastly refuses to be undreamed. " 'I'm not really surprised,' said the gardener. 'Camels are famous for being stubborn.' " This beginning chapter book offers some of the appealing mystery, but not the scariness, of Van Allsburg's Jumanji (Houghton, 1981) . Black-and-white pictures on almost every other page reflect the gentle humor of the story. Short chapters, wide margins, and double-spaced text combine with April's antics to make this an easy and enjoyable read.
