Excellent Canteen, and We've Tried Many,

We have owned many water bottles....too many. And more, we've tried and returned several others. We currently have a Nathan non-insulated straw bottle with a neoprene cover (our #2 choice), several Klean Kanteens (love these so much, wish they had a straw version!), a Thermos Foogoo straw insulated straw container (pretty nice, but a little picky about how you handle it), another Klean Kanteen with sippy lid (great when it doesn't leak!! Be sure to double check the lid before handing it to kids!) and the Thermos Funtainer (looks just like Foogoo, but made much worse. Don't bother with this one!)Anyway, out of all the containers we've read about and tried and owned, I like this Camelbak the best. It's pleasant to use. I was unsure if my 1 yr old (always breastfed, never had a bottle) would understand the bite valve right away, but she immediately took to it. It's well-made, has available replacement parts, fits in the BuiltNY sleeve for added cushion/insulation and best, DOES NOT LEAK. If you leave the valve upright, it will drip very slowly. But, when closed, it's completely sealed. I'm sold. When it comes time to replace any of our larger canteens, this is what I expect I'll purchase, in the larger size.

I purchased 2 camelbak bottles for my kids after a cheap sippy flipped open in the diaper bag and water ran down my leg and into my shoe! We love them! I've never had a leak or mold problem, although I do hand wash and gently remove valve and reposition after drying. I chose the camelbaks because my one year old prefers straw sippys over tip ones. She easily mastered the squeeze and sip feature. I would however recommend a bottle cover, as the bottle will be VERY cold once filled with ice water. I couldn't find a camelbak in the smaller size, so I went with the Built Thirsty Tote for baby bottles and it's a perfect fit!

Can fit a stainless straw,

I really wanted to go plastic-free for my kindergarten-age son, but I also needed something he could work completely by himself at school (and that wouldn't leak). This has a plastic top, but the bite valve is silicone. It does not leak. And I replaced the interior plastic straw with one of the "short, fat" stainless straws sold here on Amazon. The short, fat straws are a very tiny bit wider than the straw that came with the cup, but they still fit just fine into the bite valve.I give it 4 stars instead of 5 stars because it contains plastic. I also find the bite valve to be a little difficult to clean. It cleans just fine in my dishwasher. No problems there. However, when we're on the go and I want to just rinse it out and refill it, the bite valve will often retain the flavor of the previous drink. In this way, it's not so great for rinse-and-go situations.

Leaks all over because spout wears off FAST,

I have a mini-collection of kids water bottles, and this is one of my child's favorites. The drinking mechanism is very easy to figure out, flip out the spout and suck. My kid has a hard time drinking from bottles that you need to tilt up to drink. The upside of this bottle is that it is stainless steel, so no worries about plastics and BPAs in my kid's water. My biggest problem with this bottle is that it started leaking all over after only a couple of weeks of use. In fact leaking is putting it gently - more like spraying as from a fountain every time I flipped up the spout. I found out from other reviewers that the plastic spout may have worn off, thus causing the leaking. So I ordered replacement spouts (CamelBak Kids Bottle Accessory 2 Bite Valves/2 Straws (Blue)) and, indeed, the problem went away. I was very upset by the fact that the spout only lasted a couple of weeks, but figured I got a defective one. Turns out I didn't - the new spouts also wear off pretty fast. At about $3.50-$4 for one, I can't keep replacing them. So now, when they wear off, I just twist open the cap a bit to relieve any pressure that may have built up, then twist back close, and only then flip up the spout away from face and clothes. RIDICULOUS!

This is a great alternative to the Foogo bottle. My kids love these and they are 3 & 4 years old. They are very easy to use and the kids love the dinosaur and pirates on the bottles. I like these bottles because they are easy to clean and they have replacement parts (the foogo bottles do not have replacement parts and are hard to clean). I would recommend this to any parent who wants a bottle to take on the go.

This water bottle is great. My son started drinking from my Camelbak, so I got him his own. He's now 2, and has been using a Camelbak for about 8 months. He never used a sippy, just went straight to this. He has no trouble opening and closing the valve. It is easy to keep clean, too. I usually wash by hand, but I have also put it in the dishwasher without any issues. My one complaint is that the valve eventually cracks because he chews on it. I know it's not meant for chewing, but it's something to be aware of if your kid chews straws. You can buy replacements, so that's ok. After seeing ours, my sister-in-law also bought some for our 3 1/2 yo niece. She uses the plastic ones and loves them.

my daughter has been able to drink out of this since she was 7 or 8month. She is now 2.7yrs old and still loves it. This helps keep her hydrated!! and the dinking mechanism seems to help babies drink from it too.

the bottle itself is of very good quality, and the pattern is very cute.but the sippy spout is not strong enough - it is torn after only two month's normal use. for 20 bucks, you would expect it to last longer.
