Frequently Asked Questions

Can I put hot water in my CamelBak Groove?

Yes. Hot water, NOT boiling water (maximum temperature: 100 degrees Fahrenheit), can be used in the CamelBak Groove. However, please be aware that the experience will be similar to drinking hot liquid through a straw, so use caution when doing so.

Can I put ice in my CamelBak Groove?

Yes. Feel free to fill the bottle with ice, but be sure to leave enough room in the bottle for the filter housing and tube assembly when the cap is replaced.

What will happen if I put sports drinks or juice in the CamelBak Groove?

The CamelBak Groove is designed and intended for use with water only. The filter may remove the flavor from these types of beverages, leaving you with unsavory water.

Can a child use the CamelBak Groove?

Children age 5 and under should not use the CamelBak Groove. The Bite Valve could become dislodged and pose a choking risk.

Can I use CamelBak Groove when I’m hiking in the back country or travelling abroad?

Only use the CamelBak Groove with potable tap water. The Fresh Filter contained in your CamelBak Groove is not a purifier and not certified to be effective against bacteria, cysts, or viruses. It does not remove harmful microscopic pathogens that may be contained in tap water outside of the US, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan.

Can I use the CamelBak Groove in high-altitude / low-pressure environments (i.e. airplanes, mountain altitudes, etc)?

Yes, but with extra care. Always keep the bottle right side up and the bite valve in the closed position. Remove the straw for additional protection. Expect a bit of "spurt" during the first sip.

Is the CamelBak Groove microwave safe?

Feel free to use the CamelBak Groove to warm up liquids (i.e., up to a minute). Do NOT microwave with the cap (or straw or filter) in place as it contains metal screws that are not microwave safe.

What are the maximum temperatures (freezing / boiling) that the CamelBak Groove can withstand?

The CamelBak Groove can withstand being filled with water ranging in temperature from 34 - 100 degrees Fahrenheit. We do not recommend freezing water inside the bottle or boiling it. Extremely hot fluids can damage your CamelBak Groove.

What if I accidentally washed my Fresh Filter in the dishwasher?

If you accidentally wash your Fresh Filter in the dishwasher, we recommend that you discard it and place a new Fresh Filter in your bottle.

Important Information

Directions
Change your filter regularly to ensure great-tasting water. Each filter reliably reduces contaminants for 300 refills of the bottle or approximately 3 months of use at 3-4 full bottles per day (48 gallons / 180 liters). You may need to change your filter more or less often depending on the amount of water you consume.

It makes any tap water taste just like a filtered water bottle.

Camelbak has a great warranty on their products, and will send you a new cap if yours breaks like mine did.

The bite valve was a little hard to get used to, but I am already getting used to it.

My tap water at home tastes great--or should I say, it's tasteless (in a good way). But at work it's not so convenient to get drinking water except from the vending machine, so I got this Camelbak bottle especially for work. I've been happy with it for that use, though it's a little small (just over half a liter) for hiking or any situations where you won't be able to refill it readily.

My last water bottle had a nickel-sized spout to drink from, which I loved, but it didn't seal tightly and trickled water in my bag one time too many. This Camelbak Groove is spillproof, which I do appreciate, though I'm not crazy about the bite valve. Water flows up a straw and through a rubbery valve that opens when you bite on it. I always feel as if the drinking-to-sucking ratio is low, with too much effort required to get a good drink. I haven't drunk from this kind of delivery system since I was an infant, so maybe I'll get used to it in time.

The replaceable, tube-shaped filter will work for 300 fills of the bottle, according to the product insert. It doesn't remove any pathogens, just bad taste from minerals and treatment. The bottle can be used without the filter and I've been wondering if the water would come up the straw with less effort if I tried that. Hmmm ....

So I've got a nice classy-looking bottle that won't spill and fits in my car's cup holder, and I've got good-tasting water at work (even though I have to work for it). I'm happy with that.

The Camelbak Groove is loaded with features. Some I liked, and some I'm not such a fan of.

The lid flips closed to keep from spilling, but even when open it won't spill because of a feature called Big Bite Valve. This Valve is a love-hate with me. I like that it won't spill, I don't like it that I have to bite and suck on the Valve to drink from it. My daughter, on the other hand, loves it. Let me add that the handle works very well for carrying multiple ways. I won't repeat the specific information on the material specs, you can read the manufacturer's description above.

The main new feature to this bottle is a taste filter in the straw. It's a carbon filter like in your Brita water filter. It doesn't purify water, just improves the taste. The manufacturer says it will last 3 month or more depending on use. I've lived in some places where I sure could have used a taste filter! And it will work without filter in place - functioning like a fat straw.

I highly recommend the Camelbak Groove if you live where the water comes with an "off" taste. Save the environment and your taste buds!

Initially I loved this bottle because I could re-fill it at work several times and not have to taste the weird flavor that comes from the faucets at work. I would drink 3-4 within a workday and it was convenient to carry around at work. However, after about 2 months it started making a strange noise when I would suck on it and less water would come out. After further inspection, the I noticed the internal tubing in the lid that connects the bite valve piece to the straw filter had developed a hole rendering the water bottle useless. This tubing is not sold as a replacement anywhere and I would have to buy a whole new bottle. At $25-$35 a piece, I don't feel it is worth it if the bottle needs replacing every 2 months. Camelbak needs to address this tubing issue or at least sell replacement parts.

I purchased this CamelBak in mid-April of this year. I wanted a new water-bottle that was BPA free and also has a filter (although it isnt extravagent). It truly filtered out normally foul odor and taste from water, especially from the gym and school. Less than a month later, I began to notice a sucking-noise each time a took a sip. Not long after was it until the ability to drink water lessened. Upon closer examination, I noticed either a puncture or complete detachment of the internal straw attached to the lid. Yesterday I emailed the warranty department of CamelBak (and saw that it has a lifetime warranty) and they emailed me back today (quick!) asking for my address in order to send me a new lid. Even though the complaints about the straw have been prevalent, I am very very impressed with their service. CamelBak is a great company and I hope to recommend them to as many people as it can.

So I have seen lots of friends and family drinking from the non-filtered version of this bottle and have been intrigued. The problem came when I was looking at purchasing a re-usable bottle (since I have been a devout aquafina girl for some time now)and I knew that our water at my place of work is HORRIBLE!!! So after deciding that if I couldn't refill my bottle at work I would never use it, I purchased the bottle with the built-in filter despite being double the price. First I tested it at home, but since my water isn't bad here there was negligible change. I was nervous trying it at work because I wanted it to work so badly... and the water tasted GREAT! I think it is ALMOST as good as my disposable water that I have been attached to for so long. Several people in the office were watching me take my first sip and discussing that if it worked they would follow suite because our water supply is so abysmal tasting.

After my first day I have had filled it up 4 time (the only thing I would change is to make it bigger). I have tripled my water intake. (and this has on the down side caused me to take far more potty breaks as well) Besides the great taste of my water is that drinking is so fun! I love the bite valve on the bottle. It was a little weird for me at first but I got the hang of it in no time. Sometimes i am just sitting at my desk with my water bottle hanging from my mouth as I am biting down on it and drinking. Here is a tip though: have the handle face down towards your chin instead of up at your nose. I would totally recommend getting this water bottle if you are particular about how your water tastes. (and If that isn't a problem I would recommend the non filter version from CamelBak)
