5.0 out of 5 stars I use them daily
As a U.S. infantry soldier I want to pass along my strong endorsement of the Camelbak Elixer tabs. I make an effort to avoid the sugar loaded sports drinks my buddies all guzzle and I never put anything but water in my Camelbak, so when I saw these tabs I bought one tube to test them out.

1.0 out of 5 stars Taste like Alka- Seltzer
I found this to taste like Alka-Seltzer and leave a long lingering after taste. There are many other brands of this type product and I would recommend looking at others.

As a U.S. infantry soldier I want to pass along my strong endorsement of the Camelbak Elixer tabs. I make an effort to avoid the sugar loaded sports drinks my buddies all guzzle and I never put anything but water in my Camelbak, so when I saw these tabs I bought one tube to test them out.

I'm buying them by the case now and while it seems expensive as a lump purchase it is much less than what my buddies spend daily on Powerade.

If I use a few in my Camelbak then refill it with plain water, there isn't a hint of after-taste. They just don't leave any residue but they taste great and are much more refreshing than plain water on a 13 mile ruck march.

One thing to keep in mind, they have a bit of a fizz to them so if you have your Camelbak filled to the rim it will build up some pressure as the tabs dissolve and could cause water to leak out of the weakest link, just be sure to start sipping a bit once you seal the top to give the fizz some room to expand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for backpacking, January 21, 2008
By
I bought and used these Elixir Tabs on a recent 40 mile backpacking trip in the Wind River Range. I especially liked the "low sugar" alternative to the other sports drinks but on a longer trip where space and weight are an issue these were "the deal". They dissolve quickly, have a mild taste that doesn't leave a flavor in my reservior, and are compact!
When I returned home I started using them for my child's sport drink to replace his electrolytes without all the sugar.

I was very pleased with the product!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tastes fine, not sticky, recommended, April 5, 2008

I use these both in my Camelbak and in normal water bottles. Quick to thoroughly dissolve. Tastes fine and not overly sweet which is a big plus as far as I'm concerned. Don't appear to leave any residue which is particularly good for keeping Camelbak clean.

5.0 out of 5 stars NOT Alka Seltzer, June 20, 2011

Perhaps there has been a reformulation from older reviews, but I'm using this product now in my cycling, and the taste is fine. I tried Nuun, and couldn't hack that taste.

awesome stuff. the taste is ok considering the use. it's a pretty light citrus taste which, in my opinion, is what you need when you're trying to hydrate.

i used the elixir tabs while hiking in the snow with a ruck and felt pretty good the whole time. i've read a couple of reviews that complained about the "alkaseltzer" taste but i didn't experience that at all. then again, i cut the amount back a bit because i didn't want the taste to be too strong.

$22 for 3 tubes is a pretty good deal on these things if you ask me.

While I can't speak scientifically of the benefits of the Elixir tablets, I can say that I usually put them in my backpack water bladder while hiking and climbing, and the tablets make the water taste pretty good and they possibly provide me with some extra "oomph" as I deplete my resources during the day.

As for price, I was buying these in 12-tablet tubes at a local 3-letter outdoor recreation store, but I purchased 3 tubes of them here at Amazon, got free shipping, and they cost approximately 1/2 per tablet what I was paying previously.
