Product Description

Maximum volume. Maximum hydration. The H.A.W.G. NV is by far the largest CamelBak mountain bike pack-after all, its initials stand for "Holds Alotta Water and Gear." This pack definitely lives up to its name, with ample cargo capacity and 3 liters of hydration for all-day, all-weather rides. The revolutionary NV back panel holds the pack away from your back to keep you cool and comfortable whether you're crouched in the saddle, charging an uphill section or hucking over rocks. The individual pods move in sync with you, while the lumbar panel and wider waist belt keep the bag secure and balanced. When the weather takes a turn for the worse, just pull out the integrated rain cover to shield your gear. The H.A.W.G has also been updated with more tool storage and a magnetic tool trap that automatically clicks into place so you can drink without taking your eyes off the trail. The extra pockets on the waist belt keep essentials close at hand, and the universal helmet hooks make it easy to carry your helmet when you're not riding.

Everyone, Average Joe Consumer here. Today I'm doing the full detailed review of the 2013/2014 version of the Camelbak H.A.W.G. Head to the bottom for the wrap up or read on for my full review.
Pros
-Great durability
-Awesome flexibility for storage
-Great amount of pockets and waist pockets
-NV system works better than other packs I've tried
-Comes with a rain cover that is very useful and helps protect my cargo
-Cargo holds are large enough for my day to day gear

Cons
-Bladder pocket doesn't zip down all the way
-Zipper for main pocket too close to the back of the pack making stuffing stuff in it difficult.
-Waist strap excess holders too large and fall off
-Helmet hooks are pretty much pointless

The Camelbak company released their new line of hydrations packs around mid 2013. The most dramatic changes were the new Integrated Ventilation or NV for short on the back of the pack, and their overall design. Camelbak has always made great packs. Their customer service is even better. I've had times where I needed replacement parts for a water bottle and they send it right away. Camelbak uses a lifetime warranty on their products meaning if you purchase it once you're covered for life if anything goes wrong with the pack. (The Got Your Back Guarantee).

For this review I'll start with the front of the back. On the front of the pack you can see the H.A.W.G NV logo making it clear this is a H.A.W.G and not its little brother the M.U.L.E. The logo is placed on top of a light clip so if you want to clip a light or something on your pack instead of your bike you have that option. Camelbak has done something different with this pack than previous ones. Camelback has split the front pocket into two separate pockets.

This bag was purchased to replace an older Camelbak Mule. The old bag was fine for holding a few items and some water - this new one is large enough to pack for an overnight trip/hike and still carry a full 3 liters of water in the included Antidote reservoir.

The outermost pockets are great for small tools, or chargers and cables for your phone or tablet. The elastic sided middle pocket was great to stuff things that you might need easy access to, I used it to keep the dog's leash handy once we were at our destination. The main compartment has an integrated laptop sleeve with a drawstring cinch, perfect for a small laptop or a tablet. The compartment is also large enough for a lot more gear - I packed a weekends worth of clothes and still had plenty of room.

The reservoir compartment is nicely insulated, and with a full reservoir and full load the pack still doesn't feel very heavy. I was a little wary of the new NV back panels, as I had read other reviews that didn't seem to like them. I felt they were very comfortable once you got the pack's straps adjusted properly. Also, I didn't use the belt straps, since I wasn't hiking that far, but they are a nice addition if you have to support more weight. The pouches on the belt strap are a nice bonus, perfect for something small like keys or chapstick.

I would recommend this pack to anyone who needs plenty of water for their hiking or biking activities, and also wants to be able to carry some essential gear as well. This fits a niche between one of the hydration-only packs and a much larger daypack.

The design and function of this hydration backpack is superior. As an avid mountain bike rider, this backpack is very nearly the perfect design. The padded back vents keep the pack off your back, a nice feature for those long sweat inducing rides. Routing loops, straps and clips keep everything streamlined and secure. The only thing that could be improved is to have a slightly longer (1-2 inch) insulated tube and a slightly bigger reinforced tube pass through.

Pros:
The meshed padded back vents provide good comfort and ventilation. Excellent design!
The weight, even with the reservoir filled to capacity (100 oz.) the pack is still light and comfortable.
The capacity of the reservoir provides plenty of fluid without being too bulky or heavy.
Pockets in the pack offer storage for tools, pump, spare tube etc. there is a specific pocket with wire routing for phone.
Pockets on waistband are easily accessible for keys or gel packs while riding.
Straps and helmet hooks are functional offer great adjustment capability.

Cons:
Only the price, on the expensive side but well worth it.

I rated this product as 5 stars meaning this is product has an oustanding quality and price.
Amazing features such as:

The NV technology, fits every position.
The rain cover, great to have just in case starts raining or if you're an intrepid biker.
The water reservoir featuring the Antidote Reservoir, the best of the best.
The waist straps. Great comfort and they also feature a very decent sized pockets.

What else is there to point out? Give it a try. You won't regret it.
