Camelbak OWNS the waterbottle market - NEVER LEAKS, EVER,
By Raf D (unfortunately, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: CamelBak Performance 22-Ounce Water Bottle (Apparel)
I have 4 Camelbak water bottles. They have replaced all my water bottles of the past. I have two 32oz BPA Free water bottles w/ bite valve. I have two of these Performance bottles and will be buying a 3rd (two water bottles, and one for my supplement/energy shake/nutrition for long rides). I am a cyclist. I can't say enough good things about these bottles.
Attributes: BITE VALVE - best invention ever. Bite then the water flows...otherwise nada STRAW - (optional) you can either sip water out the bite valve, use pressure to squeeze the flow up from the bottle, or my personal favorite use the straw that is inside the bottle. (these are pretty rugged pieces that can be bought seperately as they wear, which after 4 months of daily use still looks brand new) SHUT-OFF VALVE - no spills no leaks. PERIOD. Twist the top of the cap to toggle between open and closed. *When filled to the brim, it can most likely hold 24oz. The last 22oz. marker is a few ounces shy of the brim of the bottle. * Also, whatever you put in here always taste exactly like what you put in the bottle. The plastic does not come off. It doesn't taint the fluid you put in there. I've left mine in a car in 105 degree weather for several hours - all I tasted was warm water (not even Hot water - just pretty warm water...almost just how I like it) I literally have a bottle with me when I go to sleep at night. I leave it on the bed because I get dehydrated and that's how much I trust it. It has not leaked even a drip of water. I attach this to my bike water cages before I place the bike in the trunk and have never seen them spill. I tried my hardest to make these spill or leak - as long as the top is sealed to the bottle properly and the Shut-Off valve closed...you don't need to worry about losing liquid. Also...if you need a stronger stream of water while sipping from the bite valve...just squeeze the bottle. I hardly have to squeeze the bottle to get the pressure I need. The only time I really squeeze the bottle is when I pinch the bite valve and squeeze the bottle to get a consistent, precision stream of water to cool my face/head/upper torso off with a direct blast of water. I also use pack N-Large2 (which when blended with water turns out to be a rather thick substance - it's a powder supplement packed w/ vitamins, protein, glucose, amino acids, etc) and I have enough flow to sip that out of the bottle. On a side note, I stopped using glasses of all sorts - It makes drinking water even better, and arguably "cool"-er (. I drink water...and I take this with me everywhere I go...work, on the road, to the movies, church, the train, restaurants, the bookstore, EVERYWHERE. I never leave home without at least one.

Two things I don't like about it!,

I bought the 22oz silver CamelBak and can tell that the bottle looks very nice and 22oz are great!
However, two things I don't like about this item: 1) Performance mouthpiece: It's not "flipable", this means that the bottle is in constant "erection". I didn't find any information about that and from the pictures I thought it was possible. Sadly, when I received my bottle that disapointed me, why? because It's like having your mouth exposed to everything that approaches to the bottle from top direction: hands, insects, dirt, etc. and if the bottle falls upside down the first thing to hit the ground would be the mouthpiece and it will get dirty or maybe broken! 2) Performance Byte valve: I know this is supposed to be a feature, but for me having to bite and suck at the same time in order to drink is not very pleasant. It gets worst if you are short on breath... and if you really need a big shot of water you will have to squeeze the bottle as well! If you're OK with all that, then this bottle is just perfect for you!

I love the CamelBak bottle design, the straw and bite valve are just so easy to use. One handed operation, and you don't have to tip the bottle to drink, perfect!
My only problem was the last two I ordered (Better Bottle [...]) would leak occasionally, and recently developed a real incontinence problem! I thought I'd give this version a try, hoping this softer bottle material (the "Better Bottle" is made of hard plastic) might keep the threaded screw-cap area more water tight. Well, they've done something right, because this is 100% leak free. I'm comfortable leaving it on its side on the car seat, knowing I won't come back to leaks or stains. I love this bottle!!

...Hands down he best water bottle I have ever owned. I am an avid mountain bike rider and have owned dozens of bottles. However, this is my first Camelbak. After owning this one, I will never buy another brand but Camelbak. Works like a dream. Holds 22oz.....Combined with a Camelbak pack for a long trip, it is a perfect combo. Just going for a few mile ride, this is your bottle!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TRUST ME............BUY THIS BOTTLE!!!!!!!......OH, and get a good cage for is...Topeka makes a great ones....it's adjustable too

Simply wonderful,

I recently bought one of these bottles to replace a Rubbermaid bottle from Wal-Mart that I was not quite too happy with.. But this bottle, I can't say enough about it. It is particularly perfect for me as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and my hands shake really bad, so using this bottle with the straw and bite valve is perfect, because I know it is not going to spill on me whatsoever or release any liquid until I want it to. I mix drinks in these bottles, like kool-aid and things of that nature, and it is wonderful how there is a shut off valve because I have to shake the bottle pretty fiercely for a few minutes to dissolve all of the powder, and not once has it ever leaked out when placed in the shut off valve mode. I am very happy with my purchase and I will be buying more of these bottles in the near future.

best water bottle ever. i bought a couple until i found the right one to take with me to the gym. it's the perfect size for my 40 - 90 minute workout and i like that you can replace the rubber nozzle on top. like the hook that i can put my finger through to carry around the gym from machine to machine. camelbak seriously makes the best water bottles. this was my second one (i have a larger one that i use during the day) and they always work out perfect. made very well.

Less leaks than the hard-body bottles, but still not perfect,

I've been using this bottle for about 6 months now, and although it's an improvement over the Tritan (hard) bottles in leak-proof extended use, I'm still getting a bit of leaking around the seal every once-in-awhile.
The problem is, the leak is random. Sometimes it'll drip when it's first filled, sometimes it'll be perfect until late in the afternoon when the bottle is nearly empty, then unexpectedly dribble a few drops. This can happen with the valve open or closed. I have 4 of these lids (they interchange with the Tritan bottles), and all four do the same thing. I love the design and ease of use, but having to keep the bottle upright at all times is a hassle. It's crazy that a purchased bottle of water is completely leak-proof and hassle-free, but these expensive re-usable bottles always have some issue.

Best part is the straw. You dont have to tip your head back to drink from the bottle. Just pull it out of the cage, sip from the straw and never take your eyes off the road. I just bought a second one.

Does it's job, completely spill proof and looks great. It has features on this bottle I've never seen on ordinary water bottles. Locking mechanism at the top prevent water from coming out and the nipple part doubles that.

Great water bottle, but the top doesn't fold down as expected - it always sticks up. Slightly inconvenient!
