I love the straw and I love that it flips down. It stays out of sight of my two sons grubby hands. I love the loop at the top so that I can grab it quickly. I love that you have to bite the straw to get the water out because that will keep my one year old out of it for at least a little while. My 2 year old figured out how to do it in a day. It's well made and sturdy. I wish the neck of the bottle was a little wider because it makes pouring water or putting ice in it just a little harder. I bought the insulating sleeve and can't imagine this bottle without it. It cuts down on all the condensation, keeps my drinks colder for longer and has a strap on it that lets me hook the drink to my purse when I have no hands free. I recommend the insulating sleeve just as much as I recommend the bottle! I am very happy with this bottle!

Great -unless condensation or "seeing" your water level are important,

If you've never tried a Camelbak, then you must. You'll drink more water and actually enjoy doing so.
Bought this to replace my pre-2008 Camelbak (they didn't go BPA free until then). I imagine the stainless steel will hold up to drops on concrete and asphalt better. My girlfriend prefers the plastic model because she can see the water level. I get by fine just shaking it and "feeling" how full it is, but something to consider. Also, I own both kinds and the metal one does form more condensation. Again, not exactly a big deal but a potential buyer might want to know. You can put your finger through the little hole at top when you are walking. My girlfriend uses a carabiner to hook it onto her laptop bag when she goes to work. One potential drawback. This thing doesn't fit fully down inside my Mazda 3 cup holder. I own both this size and the smaller one that does fit, but I prefer this one. Camelbaks don't spill if they tip over and I'd rather carry more water. Oh, and about the company. I once developed a tear in my Camelbak hydration pack (different product). The company replaced it with one phone call and no hassle.

I can't say enough about this bottle, but I'll try and stay somewhat brief...
Went and purchased this at an REI store and not through Amazon. I see Amazon has it listed as .75 Liter but mine is a .5 Liter bottle, for what it's worth. I got sick of using plastic bottles and having them around with me in the car - just not convenient. Plus, I usually do a ton of talking during my 1 hour+ commutes from site to site and well, plastic water bottles just make my water get lukewarm pretty quickly. Not much for carrying coolers around either... The construction is quite impressive to me. I was worrying about paying 30 dollars for this and being disappointed, but I'm perfectly happy with it. The stainless steel body is obviously a little bit heavy, and I don't mind that at all - feels nice and solid in my hand. There is absolutely no condensation, period. I put ice cubes in this with water and after 10 hours, my ice cubes are still in there and the water is ultra-cold. The top bite valve was a new experience for me and I find it very unique and has a nice cool-factor. I thought my tongue would get pinched in it or something but it never has - not once. It also keeps things out of the straw area so you could simply wipe off the outside of it if you had to and not worry about anything going down the straw itself. I even keep it at the bed at night because I hate getting up to get a glass of cold water if I'm thirsty at night. I used to have a plastic bottle for this purpose and the ice would always melt quickly and then the water would be warm by the time I woke up to drink it. With this, the water always stays cold whenever I'm thirsty. I leave it in my car, laying down on the seat or in my cup-holder. It never leaks a drip, period; even if I store it upside down on a passenger seat. I was deciding between one of these versus a SIGG or Klean Kanteen and I got to compare the KK and Camelbak side-by-side at REI. I was simply impressed with this over the KK. The KK's likely are nice, but I was already annoyed about the twist-tops that squeal any time you open or close them. Not like it's a deal-breaker, but ths tops of the Camelbak are a nice plastic that doesn't leak or squeak. The finger-holder on the top of the flip-spout section is great too, but it is a little bit of weight on a single finger if your hands aren't used to it. I'd buy another one of these without thinking twice.

Let me just say first that I'm a big fan of Camelbak products - usually they're function FIRST, form second. I am not sure I can say that of this latest generation of water bottles.
They're quite sharp and the "HYDRATE OR DIE" logo is especially striking. But I have some issues with construction. I suppose you can't expect a water bottle to be indestructible, but the problem with stainless steel is it makes you think something IS indestructible so when it's NOT you're very disappointed. I dropped one of these in the gym bathroom with somewhere around 14 oz water in it and it put a pretty sizable dent in the bottom corner. I was so frustrated with myself I ordered a new one. That's understandable, it can't exactly be reinforced with concrete filler, but it's hefty look and feel is somewhat misleading. My second and primary beef with this water bottle is that it LEAKS. It doesn't lean out of that famous Camelbak leak proof nipple - it leaks at the seam of the lid and the bottle. I've got a tiger man grip, but you gotta work this thing down like a wench, like you're trying to strip the threads off a 3/4" pipe, in order to be able to set it down and not have it leak out. Since I take these to the gym constantly, I'm laying them down in the seat because my cup holders aren't big enough. I pick it up and there's a big wet spot in the upholstery where some of the water leaked out, and very annoying to clean if there's gatorade mixed in. Imagine coffee or tea! I know Camelbak's known for water bottles and such but they need to figure out what the problem is here. It happens on both of them so I know it's a design flaw, not just a fluke. I do have one last bone to pick before I start talking about what I like about them: they're STUPID expensive. $22-$30 for a water bottle!? Make sure you don't lose it - trust me, you're pissed. I lost one last semester. If you don't plan on laying it on its side, let me say a few things about what I do love about these: 1. The carry toggle/loop - never breaks, never deforms, easy to use 2. The nipple - seems to last forever and never corrodes or tastes funny (have used OJ, cranberry juice, gatorade, water) 3. The SS surface is pretty nonslip, so you don't have to carry it by the toggle on top. 4. Carries a lot! 5. Looks friggin boss

Finally they made a non-plastic bottle,

I have always liked this design, but had to toss out all my old ones due to the BPA. Very happy they brought back this design in BPA Free plastic and stainless steel. I prefer the stainless steel; this is a good design b/c I can get ice cubes in it without any problems and it is easy to drink from on the go.

The straw is made of polyethylene, the same material used in milk jugs. So it leaches a little. Also the cow magnet barely stick to the bottle...the stainless steel seems to be 18/0, instead 18/8 which used by high end cookware. I'm not sure about what kind of stainless steel this one is. If you want to use it for ice cold water, then get the isolation sleeve for this bottle. Otherwise, it would be too cold to hold it with bare hand for long. Lastly, bite valve gets mold pretty easily if liquid stays in there for long period of time, and replacement is expensive. Pull the bite valve out for cleaning and air dry it.

This is only my second stainless steel water bottle but I love it. My first one was only 16 ounces and had a sport top that leaked out its vent hole, and it would sweat like crazy. I've had the Camelbak one for two days now and haven't found a thing to complain about. Amazon sent me the wrong one- I wanted a plain stainless steel but got the one with the green instead- but it works great, doesn't sweat, and the bite valve is easier to use than I expected. The ONLY downside is it won't fit in a standard cupholder, but that's not a problem in the car, since it doesn't leak no matter how it falls over or gets shaken around.

Crisp Taste - Perfect,

I was a previous user of the Nalgene type plastic water bottles. I was looking at a bunch of different stainless steel bottle's and finally had it narrowed down to this one and the Klean Kanteen. The .75 liter Kanteen bottle was too tall, this one had the perfect size. I was skeptical in the beginning at the bite valve for drinking but now I love it. Keep in mind that unlike the Klean Kanteen this bottle cannot be heated up, incase you want to carry some hot water with you. I bought this just to use in my office for cold water with ice, so that wasn't an issue for me.
The bottle by itself does sweat when you have ice cold water. I was debating whether to get the insulated botle which holds only .5 liters but I like having the extra amount of water and instead opted to get the insulator cover for it. With the cover this bottle does an awesome job keeping the water cold for several hours and the cover takes care of the sweat problem. Water tastes very clean and crisp and I'm very glad I purchased this. If you are planning on using this bottle for ice cold water then I would recommend purchasing the Camelbak insulator cover for it as well.

My Wife purchased this bottle for use around the house, at the gym, and on hikes. it works great - the volume of the container is the right amount, the bitevalve works great without any spills when the bottle is inverted, the bottle is stainless steel, so there's little plastic in constant contact with the water, and the art on it looks stylish. it took her some getting used to however - the internal straw makes it so you hold the bottle like a cup (no tilting) and after you take a drink, you need to bite the valve and allow gravity to pull the water in the bite tube down into the container, otherise, when you fold the bite valve toward the clip, the water that was in the bite tube will leak onto the cap. also, this bottle is not insulated.

This is exactly what the description says. A stainless steel bottle with .75 liter capabilities. NOWHERE in the description does it say that it is double walled or insulated. It's really annoying and stupid for so many people to be giving the item low ratings just because they didn't read and thought they were buying the insulated double walled version. I happen to have both versions myself. I use this version with a sleeve when I'm traveling outside because it carries more liquid. The double walled version keeps drinks colder longer and doesn't sweat, but it carries less liquid (only .50 liter) so I used it indoors since I have to refill it more often. You can't give a product a low rating just because you didn't read the description before buying. If you want the insulated version they have that on amazon too.
This is an excellent bottle. If you're new to camelbak use here is a few things you should know. 1- You can and should remove the straw and silicone bite valve for easy cleaning. A sports straw straw comes in handy for cleaning the inside of the straw regularly too if you want to. I don't use any soap to clean the bottles just white vinegar and I never get any mold build up in the years I've been using camelbak. 2- When you first start using the bottle you may find the valve a little tough to bite on. It gets softer with use. Just give it a couple of weeks. 3- Unfortunately all camelbaks including the stainless steel versions come with plastic straws on the inside. It IS bpa free plastic, but if you want a no-plastic option this is not for you. 4- Unfortunately camelbak does not have a glass version. Only plastic versions and stainless steel versions. Water tastes so much better out of glass. I have a glass water bottle that fits my camelbak screw on top and I use this self made glass camelbak for home use for the best tasting water, while using the stainless steel versions for whenever I leave the house for safe travel. The plastic camelbaks so far tend to be better at never leaking. The .75 stainless steel one I have leaks only a few drops from the lid and then stops so it's no big deal for me. The plastic camelbaks are 100% leakproof but they're also icky plastic that makes water taste plasticy. Personally I'd rather have something that's 98-99% leakproof and stainless steel and leaks a few drops than the former. |
