1.0 out of 5 stars Makes your water reek like a dirty sweat sock
Sure, this bottle is great the first few times you use it. However, despite regular washings, after a couple weeks the entire bottle and its water will reek of moldy, dirty sweat socks after a few hours of storing water. It's disgusting. This continuously happens, despite being washed after each use (not just "rinsed out.") Don't waste your money. I now have to just...

...if you are a regular and massive water drinker like me. I carry water around with me all day and drink easily a gallon per day, so I figured that investing in a BPA-Free container makes a lot of sense in the long run.

Also the construction and materials of these bottles is top-notch. Very sturdy, and the plastic they use for the lid is both visually and tactilely pleasant. Where the lid screws onto the bottle, it seems to be slightly softer so it's quite leakproof and you don't have to twist it super tight for it to prevent leakage like you do with some cheaper bottles.

The shape is perfect for fitting into the mesh water-bottle side pockets of my backpacks, a SwissGear laptop pack and a Jansport daypack. One liter ties me over for a good 2-3 hours. I use one of these bottles for water, and another one for Gatorade whenever I go to the gym.

The plastic loop in the lid is great for carrying with one finger or clipping onto a strap on your backpack; it also helps you twist to open the lid. Pretty smart design!

Overall, this is one product that DOES live up to the "You get what you pay for" cliche.

* CLEANING TIP: All you need to do is clean with hot water and add a drop or two of bleach to it, then rinse. I only have to do that maybe once every 2-3 weeks, and I use my bottle every day just about. Most of the time just a simple rinse in warm water will do, but the odor develops over time due to growth of the bacteria in the backwash that happens every time you drink from it---if you pour the water out of the bottle into a glass instead of drinking directly from the bottle, I'd imagine you wouldn't have any odor issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really nicely designed lids!, December 17, 2008

Nice job Camelbak! Great packaging. Camelbak wraps each bottle in a clear plastic protective sheet that both protects the product and eliminates problems with those annoying sticky product labels that are often so difficult to remove. The best part of the bottles are the lids. Just stick your index finger into the hole that also serves as a carabineer hook and spin the lid on and off. Best lid that I have ever used. Really easy and fast to open and close. The one liter bottle is too tall for my dishwasher top rack which is where Camelbak says the bottle must be placed. Buy these bottles for the nifty lids. Oh... and no BPA!

5.0 out of 5 stars Good BPA free bottle, June 15, 2008

This bottle is what you would expect; holds enough water for a day at the office or a light day on the trails. It's a bit too big for car cupholders, which was not unexpected but a shame nonetheless. If you are looking for a BPA free bottle this is a great, cheaper option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bottle for everyday use, October 3, 2008

I bought this bottle to replace a Nalgene bottle which was not BPA-free. I purchased the 0.5 liter bottle with classic cap and I take it to work every day. It fits in my lunch bag as well as the cup holder in my car and I have not experienced any leaks. I've been using this bottle for about a month now and I've been pleased with it so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars great product, December 16, 2008
I love this water bottle and got one for everybody for Christmas. I drink water out of it all day then go to the gym and mix my protein shake in it. It definitley gets used every day and I can rest at ease that I am not consuming dreaded BPA and pthalates.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bottle, wish cap would attach to bottle, May 30, 2008
Just got my Camelbak BPA-free better bottles in the mail. Bottle looks good and water tastes good from it. Roughed it up a little bit out of curiosity and it holds up well.

My only complaint is that it would be nice if the lid had something to attach it to the bottle so that I wouldn't have to hold it to take a drink (something like the nalgene bottles have that connect to the top of the bottle and the lid). They also offer a version with a foldaway bite-valve lid but I don't like these so I went with the classic lid. I do like the hole in the lid for carrying or slipping it onto a caribiner.

Fan of Camelbak for years and I really like this basic, no frills, BPA-free bottle. Does the job and the cap is strong and sturdy enough to be on a carabiner all day while biking or hiking. Easy to fill and easy to clean. Top rack dishwasher safe. Overall, dependable reliable and sturdy product. Check out the video for details and to see the bottle up close and personal.

5.0 out of 5 stars They've Captured Lightening in a Bottle!, November 26, 2010
If you're thinking of buying a portable water bottle, don't hesitate one minute about buying this one: It's simply the best I've seen outside of a heavy double-walled thermos type (and even though it's not insulated, it keeps liquids cold for a surprisingly long time.

One sucks up water through a rubber device that opens slightly when bitten, and which otherwise remains tightly sealed. (While not truly hands-free like other CamelBak hydration bottles, you could place it on a desk or other flat surface and sip while reading. (However, it's not really designed for that, and I'm not sure your dentist would approve.)

The "sipper" is reliable and holds up well; I've had mine well over 6 months and it's none the worse for wear. And I've put this bottle through its paces, dropping it on hard surfaces and not washing it for days (ok, weeks...). I've used it only for water; still, there's never been a foul odor or any difficulty rinsing it. I've used it on long walks and ocean kayak (it even floats), and it's one of my most important pieces of "equipment." It also has hash marks on one side at eight ounce and 250 ml. intervals. Of course, it's BPA free, the new standard for portaging water. Just anecdotally, I believe I drink more water using the CamelBak than I would just drinking from glasses--it has the touch of adventure about it, and it's a slow, relaxing way to get your daily 64 ounces (those on a diet will love this too).

You don't need to leave the house to enjoy the CamelBak's dependable mechanics and large capacity. However, should you ever go on any kind of demanding expedition--like walking to the mailbox, for example--the CamelBak will not fail you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good bottle, September 12, 2009
It doesn't leak or anything which is great and I like the measurements on the side. My only complaints would be that if you don't wash it every single time you use it (instead of just refilling water as you go)there is a plastic type of taste. Also, it doesn't fit in most cup holders. Otherwise, it's a pretty good product.

Nice bottle, cool top. The only drawback is that the opening is a bad size, but maybe it's just my big nose. While driving I find it difficult to drink from.
