Great for kids! July 15, 2011
This pack is great for kids! I purchased a blue one for my daughter who has been bugging me for one since she has seen both my husband and I use ours. My daughter is five and has always been in the 30th percentile for height so she's shorter than comparable kids; that being said, I have the straps as small as I can get them length wise and then the chest strap as far up as it will go. It works. She LOVES it and ask for me to put water in it all the time! She walks around the house sucking on the hose all day so it will get any child to drink more water! That is probably a HUGE plus in my opinion. I can see her using this for a long time because there is plenty of room for her to grow in the straps. There are two different pockets. The top one I think is hard to get things in and out of but the front pocket is a good size. I can fit her half a sandwich, half a sliced apple and granola bar in it. Maybe a whole sandwich and snack for older children? I guess it all depends on what you want your child to be able to tote around with them when hiking or adventuring. In my opinion, you can't go wrong. It gets your child to drink more water and that's a huge step!

My son is 7. He uses this to keep hydrated while skiing. New, wider bottle opening makes it super-easy to clean. The pockets are big enough for a sandwich and some snacks, but not much else.

This is a true minimalist backpack. While intended to be used for kids, I decided to buy it for cycling. I did not want a large pack and only needed 50oz of water to supplement the bottles carried on the bike. I am able to carry my wallet, cell and even a light jacket along with the water. This pack is not for large framed people. (I had to modify the straps in order for it to fit me comfortably in the cycling position) It is well made and does a great job holding all the items listed above. I believe that children would find this pack perfect for holding all the stuff they would need on a day hike including a small poncho. Good pack.
