Sweat Makes It Hard to Grip

I purchased my Camelbak bottle for $20 at a local running store back in March since I needed something that wouldn't spill and was easy to handle. As a whole, I've gotten what I've wanted, with the exception especially during the summer months where it is difficult to grip the smooth plastic, even with the snug elastic pouch. I have used it for several 5Ks and one 10K, and usually after ten to fifteen minutes I take my hand out of the pouch and just hold it until the end of the race. I still use it when I do my daily runs, but it would be wonderful if the company included a covering around the bottle that could absorb sweat. If the designers were to make this one adjustment, they would have the perfect bottle for runners.

Very good but not perfect

I am one of those that would run naked if possible, I hate carrying things in my hands or in my pockets but after recently underestimating Georgia heat and humidity I realized I need to start running with water (people have been telling me that for years but I resisted...one friend even had me try her belt.) Anyway, I pretty much run trails exclusively so water options are fewer and I am running longer distances than ever and in more remote places...It has definitely been time to make some adjustments for awhile now. I also have found the key fob on a newer car problematic in my running shorts so wanted something I could carry that in as well.

I bought this and the Nathan Quick Shot Plus Handheld Hydration Pack Blue (separate review done). If I were to compare the two, I will sound like Goldilocks...The Camelbak is just a bit awkward for longer runs and the Nathan too small. The Nathan gets messy, the Camelbak does not, The pouch gets wet in the Nathan, Pouch stays dry in Camelbak Quick grip..The Nathan is 10oz this one says 21oz now (swear it was 22oz when I bought it). I was worried the Camelback would have a plastic taste/smell ( I hear people complain all the time about that with their Camelbak vests) but this Camelbak bottle is the first high tech plastic thing I have ever bought that has no plastic taste or smell or off gassing!!! The Nathan does have a slight plastic taste/smell but tolerable and I am very sensitive to tastes and especially smells..so if I can deal with it you should be able to. I like the thumb hole on the Nathan, the grip is a bit too wide around on Camelbak and the bottle has notches and indentations that I end up fussing with the first few miles to get my hand just right..Read more ›

I love this water bottle to use while running. It does not leak. You can squeeze the mouthpiece with your teeth and suck, or squeeze the bottle with no sucking to get water. Very comfortable to carry. I use this when running 4-9 miles, and the amount of water is sufficient. May need something more for a longer run.

Best Runner's Bottle So Far

I almost always carry water with me when I run, no matter how long or short the run is. For anything under 5 miles, I generally do not need water, but I like to have it anyway. For runs between 5-8 miles, I have a 12 ounce Amphipod that works nicely. I think this bottle works best for 8-13 mile runs. And finally, for really long runs of 14+ miles, I like to have a hydration backpack.

Pros:
The nozzle has an internal valve that only opens when adequate pressure is applied. What this means is that you can leave the nozzle unlocked and you don't have to worry about water dripping out. You can hold the bottle upside down, and it won't leak, but apply a little pressure, and a stream of water will shoot out.

Cons:
The pocket is a little smaller than my other running bottle. It is just big enough to fit 2 gels and a couple of keys. You could probably cram more stuff in there if you had to.
