Just received the Camelbak, and the first thing I noticed when I unboxed it was that it seemed heavier than I was expecting. I purchased this hydration pack with the explicit intention of using it for ultralight backpacking. It is very clearly advertised on the Camelbak website to be 4.5 oz; the Amazon listing says 5.1 oz; and (I now know) the actual product hangtag says 5.3 ounces. Not knowing what to believe, but figuring anything in that range would be fine, I chose this product over other options, excited at having found such a lightweight hydration option with a 3L capacity. Well, I don't know which half of this thing they are claiming weighs 5.3 oz, but I weighed the pack (completely empty/dry--as received) to be OVER 12 OUNCES.

Now that may seem a petty gripe and might not make much of a difference to the average user, but for someone who is trying to keep their hiking pack weight down by 'nickle and diming' ounces, and has spent a bunch of money on ultralight gear, it is very frustrating to suddenly find your pack a half pound heavier than you thought it was going to be. That's another half pound I have to lug up and down mountain after mountain.

Once I actually use it I will be able to report back with performance details. But for now I am thoroughly annoyed with the disparity between the claimed and actual product weight.

Great product. Typical Camelback quality. The new 1/4 turn lid is the real reason I purchased this. It opens and closes easily. The old style lids were real painful on the fingers when trying to get them open. This one has good insulation and protection from puncture with its outside material. You just slip it into your pack and your good to go.

Best Unbottle Yet! August 24, 2011
Color Name:Grey/Blue| Size Name:100 oz|Amazon Verified Purchase
The new quarter turn lid is amazing! If you have ever struggled to open a camelbak lid you will definitely appreciate this! Further, Camelbak has added easy zipper access to the hose connection and zipper access to get the bladder out. The last sip of water was still cool after 6 hours of desert racing!

A water sack.
What can I say. It's a big-ass water sack. The opening is large enough to get a cleaning brush in, and the lid works well.
