This review is from: Camera Armor Protective Case for Nikon D90 (Black) (Electronics)
This product is just about the same for all models, this is for the D90. There are, however, some slight improvements as the models evolve.

Let me start off by telling you why I was looking for this. The main reason is that I don't like to carry around a camera case. I just like to grab the camera and go. For long trips, I will use a case, but general everyday use and around town, who wants to lug a case around. So I wanted something that I don't need to open and close. A neoprene cover is not form fitting and you still have to take it off. This looks perfect. There's second reason too. I upgraded from a 6 yrs old D70 to the D90. Everything about the D90 is perfect... except for the size. Why did Nikon make it so small? The D70 was perfect in size, D90, too small. Grip is too thin and body not tall enough. I'm not a big guy, but my hand is decently large and I have long fingers. So grabbing the D90 just felt really weird, like I'm pinching it. From the pictures, the armor will give it a nice wrap and add thickness.

Well readers, I got everything I wanted. I read the other reviews.

* Many thought the cover made the buttons hard to press. Well, yes, you have to press a little harder, but it really is no big deal, at all.
* Some say you can't read the icons. True, there's no white letters, but the impression on the rubber is deep enough that you can read them pretty easily. If you use the camera much at all you'd know most buttons pretty well. With the impressions on the rubber you'll see it quite easily. This was one of my big worries, no worries now.
* Many people had a hard time putting the camera on tri-pot with the cover on. Looks like Camera Armor found a good way. I don't know what the old ones are like, but the new one has a very thick bottom plate, harder rubber material. This place is about 1/3 inch thick. No way you can still screw on the tri-pot. But wait... there's an attached metal button screw that goes into the screw hole. The screw has a hole of its own. So once you screw it in, it's flush to the bottom and has a hole with thread for tri-pot. It's a tri-pot hole extender! Super!

So, it does everything the other reviewers mentioned. The issues (3 above) I found are non issues with this model. The overall camera is about 1/3 to 1/2 inch thicker around the grip area, and 1/3 inch taller. Just perfect. If you think the D90 is perfect without a cover, then with the cover you'll probably think it's too big. For me, wonderful.

It does pickup dust, ol well. No big deal. One thing I don't like is the SD door cover. There is nothing there. When gripping, it feels a little weird. They could have placed a rubber flap there I think to make the grip more complete. Also, the cover covers the Nikon logo just below the flash, maybe could have left a hole to show it. Does it really matter? Lastly, I think the lens cover is crap. So ugly and not useful. Not worth taking a star away though.

Overall, 5 stars! It's been a while since I was so happy with purchasing a product... helps to set the expectation low...

It was a bear!
All-in-all, a good idea but this product is not the solution. It's pretty ugly looking too. Kind of a mottled grey appearance.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing product to protect your huge investment..., September 11, 2010

I purchased this case as I knew D90 is not weather shield as other high end are like D300. Although this case not exactly weather proofs your camera but allows your mind to peacefully concentrate on taking pics rather than thinking that your camera might get damaged or dirty. Below are some specs and rating...
1: Construction quality: Its pretty decent. Its kind of high quality thick rubber (not sure what exactly is the difference between silicon and rubber here) which first off all give more padding to your camera and also a very nice grip. It goes without saying that it adds few extra grams to altogether weight of camera. Rating 4 out of 5.
2: Comfort: Again very comfortable to hold as it gives extra grip which doesnt let your camera slip off your hand. But on the other hand you really need to get used to use camera controls after putting the cover. But yes every control remains accessible. 5 on 5.
3: Appearance: Here the lens hood is not to be used (personal opinion). It is of no use as it is pure rubber and is not going to protect your lens, instead I will suggest to go for hard plastic hood. I never apply the lens hood which came with this cover. Other than that, pretty good. As it increases the size of your camera, for some it may be good for some it may be not. 4 on 5 from my side.

Hope this helps!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Camera Armor: Excellent Choice, July 13, 2010

This review is from: Camera Armor Protective Case for Nikon D90 (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased the Nikon D90 in May, 2010 and wanted to protect the camera during use since I ride a motorcycle on long distance trips regularly. I read the reviews prior to buying and was very impressed when the product arrived. It literally fit the camera like a glove. The buttons are easy to use and all the symbols are there as well. My only draw back is the rubber hood that goes on the front of the lense, (I have the 18-105 mm) is not very compatible with the lens hood that comes in the package. I feel better putting my camera down on any hard or rough surface knowing the body is well protected. The product does what it is designed to do. I am satisfied. Thanks!

I bought this to protect my new Nikon D-90 on a vacation, because I thought the camera could be knocked around and may be rained on. However, I found the camera very difficult to use when the case was installed. In-fact when installed it put enough pressure on some buttons that the camera kept locking up, requiring the battery being removed in order to restore camera function. If you don't have all of the buttons absolutely memorized forget using it in anything but bright light. You can't read the raised molded lettering in low light. Adjusting the positioning of the cover didn't help. The rubber light shield looks like a good idea, but again, in practice has some shortcomings. When the shield is on, forget about adjusting a circular polarizer filter unless you fold it back first. Then unless perfectly placed the shield blocks some of the lens. I ruined about 10 scenery shots before I realized the problem. If slid back to prevent blockage, then it interferes with the zoom function of the lens.

After trying to deal with all of these issues, trying to take photos with little composition time I removed both pieces of the Armor and tossed them in the trash. The Lock-up problem vanished. I ended up paying $30 for a screen protector, which are $11 from Nikon.

When I first fit my Nikon D90 into it, a bit of stretching and wrestling were necessary to line everything up, but once done and adjusted properly it fit perfectly. I'm impressed with how precisely the cover's buttons fit over the camera's many buttons. The feel is great, positive gripping and a heftier feel with neglible additional weight.

The only drawback is that the button labels are embossed but not colored, so -- unless you've memorized each button's location -- it takes some up-close inspection to identify the symbols for each button.

The protective lens hood did not fit my particular lens, but that's alright. Maybe it'll fit another, but I didn't buy it for the hood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!!, May 2, 2010

I love this Armor!!! I got a Nikon D60 and the Armor for it and while that was fantastic and worked beautifully they have improved it so much for the D90! When I fitted it onto my D90 it fits perfectly, all of the buttons are easily seen and pressed and it now has a part to cover the bottom of the camera and "lock" into place! It looks very stylish, gives you very good grip of the camera, and allows for easy use of all of it's functions, even the tripod mount of the bottom.
The only issue I have is I bought the Pop-up shade by Delkin as well and since it's made by a different manufacturer it can't really be put on at the same time as the armor since it also covers the buttons around the LCD, but I will just interchange them as needed. I haven't ever really needed to use the pop-up shade since the LCD is so clear but I figure it's just another nice thing to have.
This armor is a must-have for anyone who cares about protecting their camera!

I do agree with the positive reviews here. My first impression after receiving the product yesterday was, "damn, this looks ugly!" But after fitting it in, it does look good. It gives a thicker grip on the camera as well. I like the fact that it has a bottom/baseplate cover. The more I look at it, the better it looks in my taste. It definitely gives protection to my brand new Nikon D90 (just got it yesterday too). Another plus is the pass-through screws which allows tripod mounting with baseplate in place. If you are using a battery grip, you need to remove the baseplate and pass-through which is no big deal. It also comes with an LCD shield. The D90 already came with an LCD shield so this comes as a spare for me. The LensArmor does look funny sometimes but it does the job. One thing I experienced when taking pictures with the LensArmor attached and using the builtin flash, sometimes the pictures has a shadow effect depending on the angle you are taking. The shadow effect is coming from the LensArmor. I notice it in closeup shots. Looks like the LensArmor is only good for daylight/non-flash photography.

Overall, well worth the investment to protect my camera.

Nikon would not sell or refer us to anyone for a protective armor case. After dropping the camera and breaking the battery door (cost over $100) I called camera shops and was directed to the internet. I found you and bought the armor case. Fits well, looks good and will protect this expensive camera.Camera Armor Protective Case for Nikon D90 (Black)

At first I was very skeptical about the this product. I believed that the foam material would make it difficult to manipulate the tiny control bottoms or make it uncomfortable to use. I was wrong. All controls are fully usable and the material adds grip to the way you handle the camera. If you want to protect your investment there is nothing like this. The only drawback is that it did not allow me to put it on a tripod. The hood is a bit too much for me, but I can see how it can protect it from a fall. I would recommend this protect to amateurs and especially to professionals that use and abuse their equipment. It is really worth it.
