Filter Wrench,

I had a CP stuck on my 200mm lens, it would not unscrew. I tried every scrap of advice on the internet to help me remove the stuck filter, all attempts failed. I ran into a photographer and she told me that these wrenches bailed a friend of hers out of a similar situation, I reasoned that the wrenches would not cost too much and they were worth a try. The larger of the two wrenches worked like a charm, the stuck CP came off with ease. I read a number of reviews that indicated the wrenches were not helpful, but I am not sure those folks used them correctly? Here is a trick: do not just hold the wrench at the handle end and apply pressure and turn, this may not work. Above all, after the wrench is fitted around the filter, apply pressure to the wrench body that is touching the filter, use your fingers and grasp as many points as possible and then turn. It was like a hot knife going through butter, once I used this technique. I suppose this would work with a filter of any size, assuming you had the corresponding filter wrench for that size. Good luck.

This review is from: Camera Lens Filter Wrench Set for 67mm-77mm Filters, Package of 2 (Electronics)
I have a Tiffen low profile circular polarizer, and it was always a challenge to remove from my standard zoom lens. I recently bought a wide angle lens with the same 77mm thread to take on a Trip Out West(TM). When I tried the polarizer on my brand new lens... how to describe it... Well, they pretty much bonded instantly at the atomic level. I tried every trick in the book. Trying to pry it off myself, trying a rubber band and trying to pry it off. I handed it to a passerby who assumed I was a weakling and let him to pry it off. I took it to the camera store (where they said "Boy thats on tight, I hate it when that happens. By the way we have a sale on prints this week"). I took it to the hardware store (where they wisely wouldn't dare touch it or even suggest any heavy-handed options). I was contemplating my glass cutter/hammer options, but decided on a whim to give this gadget a shot. And low and behold, it worked!
Make no mistake, these filter wrenches are exactly what they look like... thin, ring shaped hunks of plastic. They probably weigh less than a typical lens cap. But unlike the rubber band (which usually works) or can rubber jar openers, these wrenches have TEETH on the inner edge. The teeth gave me the added leverage needed to get the polarizer off. Definitely worth the price! (ps: Kudos to Adorama for prompt shipping.... got this gadget just in time before the big "Trip Out West" :) )
