Book Description

In 2009, Carl and Maxine Owen discovered that their youngest child, Cameron, had a high-functioning form of Autism, called Asperger's Syndrome. They quickly realized that very few people knew about this condition or how to help those who lived with it.

Through daily experiences, research, and the support of family and friends, the couple and their other children were able to help Cameron to work toward achieving his future potential. They realized that although love does not conquer all, it gives a strong foundation on which to build.

5.0 out of 5 stars MY REVIEW OF "CAMERON'S JOURNEY" June 26, 2012
Format:Paperback
I finished this Book yesterday morning, after only purchasing 5 days before, and having read Maxine's first Book, "MY REMEMBRENCE" and knowing her from school, I was hesitant upon reading this book partly because of shying away from the topic (Because I din't realy know that much about it (Asperger's Syndrome), but Maxine gives us an honest, truthful, well educated and research on the topic, from her and her Familys own personal insight, everday living experiences, joys, triumps, and heartache with Cemeron's Journey, and of coarse her Constant Faith in God. This Book will make you understand children better, espically children with specail needs, like the ending says Normal is highly over-rated. Well done, Maxine!!! Highly Recommended!!! Daniel Petty

Cameron's Journey is another great book of Maxine Owen's.From birth to development to diagnosis to family coping and strategies of a child who has Asperger's syndrome,Maxine goes into great detail about Cameron's life. You get to know an extraordinary child who is surrounded by extraordinary love.I especially recommend this book to anyone touched by difference in a world designed only to cater for the "norm" as I believe in entering Cameron's journey you will enter a journey of your own where you'll witness extreme support, acceptance and understanding and most of all you'll witness great love.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Read April 7, 2012

This is a book everyone should read! It really gives a lot of insight into the life of a child with asperger syndrome. Shows the confusion, frustrations, realities and yet love that this family has for their loved one. A great book for anyone who deals with children on a regular basis. There may just be a reason that a child is not responding to you in any way. It may help to diagnose another child so they can get the help that Cameron was able to. Easy to read book, you certainly won't set this one down and finish it 2 months later. You'll want to keep reading!

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVED THIS BOOK!! May 12, 2012
By ashley
Format:Paperback
I first have to say that I am a little bias. The author is my step mother. Cameron is my brother. I thought this book was wonderful. While I knew some of what Cameron had and what Maxine and my father go through, I had no idea there was so much involved with it. Cameron is a wonderful child. While he talks a lot, it is nice to have his full attention when he talks to you. Most kids don't look at you look at you when you talk to them, but Cameron does. I for one am thankful and blessed to call Maxine mom and Cameron my brother.

It will help people to understand that although love does not conquer all, it surely paves the way to help us through each day!

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart Warming! A wonderful Insight! June 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book made me laugh, cry, and inspired me! I have friends whom have children with Autism or some form of the spectrum, and each person you come across is totally different, each person opens your eyes and makes you sometimes think what it would be like to walk a mile in their shoes! Maxine captured what happens as a parent with a child whom everyone sees as different and difficult, and she captures the emotions what she felt as a parent going through the difficult diagnosis time. I commend her for allowing us to walk along in the journey to figure out what was amiss, and her patience in figuring out the solutions! Cannot wait to see what other reads she will write!

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Journey!!! June 14, 2012
By MommyK
Format:Kindle Edition
This is the first book of it's kind I have ever read. This book truly took me on the author's journey with her and her family. I laughed and cried with her and celebrated all of Cameron's joyous moments right along with them. I felt the frustrations they felt and was truly drawn into their world as Maxine told her story of her amazing son Cameron. I feel as if I know them all as close friends. The part in her book about spanking really stood out for me as well as her chapter on Cameron's siblings. Maxine and her family are AMAZING people, all who deserve recognition for all that they do on a daily basis. Whether you have a child with Asperger's or not this book is a definite must read. I sincerely hope Maxine continues to chronicle Cameron's journey for us into adulthood.
