Most of the smoker boxes that I've seen are too small, poorly made, and are for wood chips only. This box is perfect for me since I prefer wood chunks.Even though it's made in India, it's quality is excellent. The top slides on to the bottom and the handle folds over for easy storage.Another positive is that the only holes in the box are on the top. This is perfect for long lasting smoke,no flame-up, just smoldering wood.I use this on a Weber propane grill, resting it on a flavorizer bar with the burner beneath on low.I know this box will last many, many years.

Great box to add great flavor,

This is a great smoker box!A few things that stood out to me when I first opened the box: - The thickness of the walls. I was worried it was going to be made from flimsy sheet metal, but I was mistaken. This is a good, study box. - The handle is a useful feature. I didn't really pay any attention to this until I had to move it while I was grilling. One thing to pay close attention to is the height of the box. This box will not fit under my grate because it's too tall. So if you are looking for a box to sit on the flavor bars, make sure this box will fit your grill. I have been sitting the box on my grate and it is been giving me great results.

this smoker is very nice. you get a little smoke with the lid closed or more by opening the sliding lid slightly . i don't use water because the smoker sits on top of the grates.

Smoldering chips make bitter creosote,
By Bortz "bortzyboy" (usa) - See all my reviews

My wife bought me this for a Christmas gift. I've been a back yard barbecue fan for many years and have put in the time needed to learn proper fire management and what it takes to turn out good product. I used this cameron steel box smoker according to directions with the two tablespoons of chips and cooked two Omaha steaks with it. The results were terrible as used with the instructions given. Bitter meat and basically, it ruined the steaks. The concept with this product is flawed right from the start. If you're smoking in an enclosed box with no air flow, you'll get incomplete combustion of the chips, which in turn, produces creosote. Creosote is what produces a bitter flavor on the meat. Poor air flow in any kind of smoker will cause this problem. Any pit master will tell you the same thing. If you live in a northern climate and can't be bothered with setting up your smoker on a snow covered patio deck, you're better off going to your local BBQ restaurant, rather than wasting time with this lazy-que meat ruin-er.

Not to sound like a bad NFL coach post-game press conference cliche, but this smoke box "is what it is." It does it's job as a cheap smoke box, imparting added flavor to items you're slow cooking on your gas or coal grill. For true smoked meat flavor, you're better off buying a full-on, high-quality ceramic meat smoker, which can be purchased for upwards of $175.For the price, this is a pretty decent tool to add to your BBQ utility belt.

I got it a couple of years ago, and now have to replace - it rusted through.Well made and easy to use - until its stainless steel qualities are gone.

Very nice smoker for the money. I have a Weber S-320 grill and I bought this smoker to put under the grid on top of the flavorizer bars. The height of the smoker with the lid on prevents the grid to rest where it should. So I have to leave the lid off or put on top of the grid. Cheaper than Weber alternative.

Too small, not the European style smoker box,

My bad for not checking out the size; this is way too small for my needs. I was expecting the European style smoker box that is large enough to put a large fish or salon steaks on a grill inside the box along with the chips on the bottom, place the lid on and put on top of the BBQ or on top of stove [be sure to have a strong smoke extractor]. The heat from the BBQ sets the chips smoldering and smokes the fish/meat/fowl/fruit/etc.Should have guessed it was not what I was looking for by the price. I did not see a discription or size listed on the product listing.

This stainless steel box is substantial and stands up to our coastal environment better than did the cast iron smoker I tried first. The problem is that it emits a lower volume of smoke than I need for my grilling needs. I use it occasionally, but for the most part I have gone back to placing smaller quantities of wood chips directly on the coals several times throughout the grilling process, at least with salmon and turkey.
