5.0 out of 5 stars Throbbing, Funky, Acid-Jazz Psychedelia, September 18, 2000
This review is from: Camille 2000 (Audio CD)
This is by far one of Piccioni's better scores which evidences his wide palette of 'possible musics' (to use an old Brian Eno term). Nevermind the film itself: it's a dated thing with good production design and softcore intentions, but the score...(!). Egads!

I've played this CD hundreds of times and still find joys hidden here and there above and below its funky, never-ending bass line, the serpentine and sensuous are-we-tripping-yet organ journeys, its pre-Shaft horn clusters, and the restrained augmentation with Eurosex strings.

Piccioni had composed lush, classic scores like "Senilita" in the vein of Nino Rota prior to composing and producing this gem in 1970, and had also laid down some incredibly sweet, sad jazz for films like "Un Tentative Sentimentale" (1963). Mod excursions like "Fumo di Londra" pointed to this album, but even so, it is way 'out there' for a film composer. "Pearls", for instance, is a four minute psychedelic funk foray that does not sound like 'hip ' film music of its day, as most attempts by film composers to do 'rock' or 'psychedelic' sounded camp or silly.

Even the cuts herein that have a more traditional structure (a bossa nova called "Ballade" for instance) are infused with an edge and whimsy peculiar to the magical Piccioni. And the rapturous main title theme played with full orchestra is one of the lovelier pieces of film music I've heard in the last 30 years.

Trip-hoppers and lounge fans will find this CD pivotal for sampling and cocktails; Piccioni fans will find it indispensable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bossa Nova On An Orgasmic High., January 14, 2002

This review is from: Camille 2000 (Audio CD)
Hypnotic, Groovy, Erotic, Psychodelia, Phantasmagorical, Titillating, Down Right Kinky & Orgasmic. Such Levels of music unattainable by many who tried to achieve his sheer Splendor. Until the master himself Piero Piccioni Used his Brilliance to express a vulgarly arousing side to bossa nova, placing him ahead of his time. If the Intensity of each Orgasmic encounter could be expressed into a musical form, this is what it would sound like. With the Combination Of Radley Metzger & Piero Piccioni's wizadry, they will unlock your senses, thus revealing some of the most arousingly carnal secrets of the human mind. You will be left cleaning your glasses from the steam that your body temperature has acquired. Camille 2000 A Must See even for the most sacred mind.

5.0 out of 5 stars Camille 2000 and Beyond, August 20, 2001
This review is from: Camille 2000 (Audio CD)
...Beautiful. Funky. super Bossa nova. Psychadelic. ...There's lounge, jazz, strings, g-strings, all forms of things, and it sounds so very good, like gummy berry vodka gello to my ears. Not only is the score of such incredible loungasmic quality, but the flick is a erotic vintage jem. This stuff is groovy.
