5.0 out of 5 stars If you like action, adventure and romance; this one won't disappoint you......., January 25, 2008

Camouflage Heart by Dana Marton
Harlequin Intrigue # 875 - October 2005 - SDDU series Book #4

Audrey travels to Malaysia with her sister so that she may adopt a child. While she deals with the legal work, her sister takes a sightseeing trip to Borneo. The tour group is ambushed by Malaysian guerilla's and all are taken hostage, the money raised will pay for their over throw of the government. Audrey raises the ransom for her sister, and she too is taken hostage by a different group. Brian's career with the SDDU began four years ago, and one his first mission into Malaysia he was captured by the guerillas. For four years he experienced torture and deprivation, to the point he was uncertain if he'd every be able to function in the real world again. He was plotting his escape when his captors brought Audrey to camp. He couldn't leave her behind and suddenly his instincts as an SDDU agent overcame his instincts of personal survival.

If you like action, adventure and romance; this one won't disappoint you. Together they battle their way to rescue Audrey's sister and the other hostages. Along the way, Brain finds himself wishing to be the man he used to be. Audrey's acceptance of Brian as the man he is now, helps heal his nearly broken spirit. I found this book to be incredibly well written - not only for the great action but for the depth of emotion.

SDDU (Special Designation Defense Unit) series by Dana Marton

The SDDU is an elite group compiled of agents from all the US agencies; CIA, FBI, SEALs, Special Forces; the best of the best. The SDDU is Homeland Security's special weapon against terrorism.
Shadow Soldier / Secret Soldier
The Sheik's Safety / Camouflage Heart
Rogue Soldier / Protective Measures
These are all incredible reads! If you like action, adventure and romance, these will not disappoint you. I love that Ms. Marton writes her heroines to be equally as brave and strong as her heroes.

"Warrior With A Cause"
Oh, Yeah!
We find Brian Welkins being held prisoner in a Malaysian prison.
A tiger's cage, no less. Four miserable, mind-blowing years.
He was a member of the "SDDU", a top secret military group.
He has been living for the day that he could escape.

He is all geared up for a quiet escape when wouldn't you know Omar's men show up with a female hostage. Audrey Benedict.

Audrey is in Malaysia to adopt a child when her sister, Nicky and several other people are taken hostage by Malaysian guerillas.

Keep an eye out for Hamid, Jamil and Omar - what a nasty group!

Their escape and trek through the jungle is breath-taking, plus-pounding action with a couple of death-defying skirmishes and a tricky encounter with Hamid.

And dang, even the Malaysian troops are shooting at them.

Great moving action - plot - story - join in the dodging of the bullets, snakes, creepy-crawlies - oh yes, and a mud slide.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --M even with the raging hormones. And wait until they get back to civilization. Yikes.

This is a fast paced novel set in the jungles of Malaysia. Brian is fianally escaping his prison after years of captivity and rescues a woman that was just captured. What I love about these books is that the females are not helpless she carried her own and yet he did have to save her a few times and she returns the favor and saves him also. Strong men and strong women perfect fit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots of Action with a Nice Romance, June 7, 2011
This review is from: Camouflage Heart (Harlequin Intrigue) (Mass Market Paperback)
Once in awhile I come across a Harlequin that is different; a story that has an interesting plot and engaging characters. CAMOUFLAGE HEART by Dana Marton is one such book. What would happen to a prisoner of four years that lived under horrific conditions and finally found a way to break out only to come up against a roadblock because of his nature?

Brian Welkins was just that man. He was held captive in a Malaysian prison, given up for dead. Just when he is trying to escape again (there have been other unsuccessful tries) the guerrillas snag Audrey Benedict. Brian's honor comes into play, should he try to save them both when fruition is bleak at best? His answer is yes. From there on the narrative grips you, the reader, so be prepared to devote some quiet time so you can complete the book. You won't want to put it down once you start.

Is it a bit far-fetched? Of course, but it still has many realistic elements that keep you going. Both Brian and Audrey are smart and act like adults should. The hero is an alpha male but he's not overly dominent. He's been damaged both physically and mentally for a long time and it shows. Our heroine has smarts; she is both complex and able-bodied. Still, she is in unfamiliar territory and knows when to accede to Brian. Given the less than ideal setting, Ms. Marton could have her come across as whiny or immature but that was not the case. At 251 pages the book makes for a fast read; I think you will enjoy it.
