Book Description

February 16, 2001
Governor Richard Smithers and Warden John McMurray conspire to move prisoners from Lodge Point Prison to Daniels Island to develop a casino enterprise in Bermuda with the help of a New York crime boss. Steve Kerns is a DEA agent assigned to the Witness Protection Program in Bermuda after his successful breakup of a drug operation in Central America. Kerns uncovers the Smithers scheme to defraud the Bermudians of their land. Kerns operates under the alias of Doctor Kevin Garrett to conceal his identity; however, he falls in love with the governors wife, Rhonda Smithers, and compromises his alias and reunification with his family. His wife, Beth, is determined to seek the truth about her husbands disappearance and works feverishly to locate her husband, despite the recalcitrant DEA chief, Roger Branson. Kerns is ultimately reunited with his family after the heroic efforts of his wife, Beth. Governor Smithers and his cohorts are exposed, and the integrity of Bermuda is maintained. The author brings the sights and sounds of this island paradise in an action thriller that intersects the worlds of espionage, romance, and government intrigue.

4.0 out of 5 stars Camouflage, May 13, 2001

This review is from: Camouflage (Paperback)
CAMOUFLAGE by A. Keith Barton captured my attention quickly. I found myself caught up in the main character and the beautiful romantic setting of Bermuda. I was entranced with the plot and what was going to happen next. It is full of suspense and intrigue with a touch of sex and romance for spice. The plot is built around government agents, a casino enterprise, crime bosses, the island governor, his sexy wife, and a plot to take land. It is an entertaining book well worth reading.

A great movie plot! I can see it being a Harrison Ford type thriller. The author shows promise with this book, and the reading public just needs to discover him.

4.0 out of 5 stars More Thrills from Barton, March 15, 2001

This review is from: Camouflage (Paperback)
I liked this Barton book even better than High Rise. Perhaps it's the setting, the island paradise of Bermuda with its palm trees, pastel homes, and quaint names. Steve Kerns, aka Dr. Kevin Garrett is a DEA agent who's been put in the witness protection program. He's left behind a wife and three children who have been told he is dead. Kerns, though grieving the loss of his family, falls in love in Bermuda, with the wife of the govenor! Watch out for plot twists as Kerns uncovers a casino enterprise plot involving some high-placed powers in Bermuda and a New York crime boss. Add to that his wife's continued efforts to find out what really happened to him, and you have intriguing parallel plot lines. Ethical dilemmas abound! This story moves fast to a compelling end.
