Product Description

Traditional cast iron pots pale in comparison to the hefty Camp Chef Deluxe 6-Quart Dutch Oven. Drop crisp or cobbler ingredients inside, load some coals on top of the reversible lid (flips over for use as a skillet), and soon you'll have a dutch full of delicious viddles. Champ Chef detailed the lid with a Yosemite National Park Commemorative cast for an added touch of campy goodness.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best $40 will ever get you., February 6, 2007
It's a deal and it's as good as any other cast iron dutch oven I've used. Bake some good bacon fat into it to amend the factory seasoning and you've got yourself a winner. The lid has legs on it too which helps when you want to use it as a skillet. I got 2 friends to buy it and another sale through one of those friends, it's contagious, especially when you compare the value to other ovens.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great dutch oven, August 11, 2010

This is my first dutch oven. My internet research found that a lot of people seem to have either Lodge or Camp Chef cast-iron on all the camping forums. I picked this one because I like the lid that doubles as a griddle and also because the price was better than Lodge. I do like that Lodge is made in the U.S., but I wish they were more competitively priced. A 12 quart lodge dutch oven was double the cost of this one. And as I said, I like the legs on the Camp Chef lid.

I was afraid that 12 quarts might be too big, but the lid actually accounts for about 3 of those quarts, so the pot is only about 9 quarts which is a perfect size for me. It was pre-seasoned and the first thing I made was a cobbler. Clean up was easy. After cleaning I heated it on my grill to dry it and then rubbed some more oil all over it. A few days later I wanted to test how well the lid worked as a griddle. The legs on the lid let me sit it right on the coals and I made some bacon and eggs. I cooked the bacon first and the lid held a whole pound of it. After that I drained the bacon grease and fried a half dozen eggs and there was no trouble with sticking. Again, clean up was a breeze. While still warm I wiped it out with some water and a small scrub brush. Re-oiled it and it's ready for my next meal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for camping!, April 1, 2008
If you enjoy camping then Dutch oven cooking is a treat. I received this oven as a gift and have enjoyed it thoroughly. I've used Lodge ovens as well, and the advantage this has over a Lodge is the lid. There are three feet on the lid so the lid can be placed upside-down on coals and used as a skillet! Wonderful for cooking breakfast.
I've cooked chicken and rice, cobbler, and biscuits in this oven and it has performed beautifully. For "car camping" this can't be beat. Even my children have enjoyed cooking in this oven - it's a family affair!
