It doesn't matter how many lumens a product claims.
Wanos
It would not charge because it kept turning the phone on and when it was searching for service it would kill the battery faster than it would charge.

I am excited to test and review this awesome new product from Camp Chef .

Listen up boys and girls. I love to camp, so I've acquired many light-emitting devices during my time. Discouraged at some of the products, I decided to purchase a light meter (DrMeter Digital Illuminance/Light Meter LX1330B, bought here on Amazon, at http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005A0ETXY/ref=oh_details_o01_s01_i03?ie=UTF8&psc=1). This device pretty much matched and confirmed what my eye measurement assumed. I've listed the items I've purchased below, and taken picture of all my lanterns that are worth testing, located at [...] Next to the product name is the tested lux (which is the amount of light shined on a given surface area). It doesn't matter how many lumens a product claims. All that matters is how much lux there is. The higher the lux, the brighter things appear to be. For example, if you have a super bright light source rated at 10,000 lumens, but it shines like a ball, it won't be as bright as something that is rated 1,000 lumens and shines in only one direction simply because all the light photons are pointed toward a common direction. I tested all products at the same distance between light source and the light meter. The lux numbers are pointless by themselves. But compared to different products, it gives you a good idea of what's brighter than what.

Solar Lantern Ultimate - 104 lux - I purchased this product from an unknown online company called World Green Products. I'd put the website here, but I'm afraid Amazon is going to just remove it. Simply search Google for "Solar Lantern Ultimate" and the website should match the words "world green products". Unlike typical lanterns that shine 360 degrees, this lantern only shines about slightly less than 180 degrees.

What will Camp Chef come up with next, to top this lantern. I am excited to test and review this awesome new product from Camp Chef .

I was amazed at the light this thing puts out . It has 8 led lantern lights with a 100,000 hour life . That's a lot of lantern power. It can be charged 3 ways. From the sun ,normal 110ac electrical power, or from a 12 volt, vehicle power port. The 2.2 watt dual array solar panel ,will catch all of the light available, to make the lantern light up with no other power at all. It has a USB charging port ,to charge up all of the latest electronics , that could be a life saver if you get in a pickle. I give this lantern my highest recommendation for ingenuity, usefulness and quality.

Pros// It has 3 charging options. The lantern can charge many other electronics. Great for emergency preparedness.

Cons // none readily visible, except that it can not cook dinner , like most other Camp Chef products.

Fishgriller Approved, I hope this review will help you make an informed buying decision.

It definitely doesn't charge as easily and fast or shine as bright as I was led to believe. We use it and it works alright, but it has to be put in DIRECT sunlight in order to charge AT ALL. If it's slightly cloudy, or the sunlight isn't hitting the sensor just right, the light turns red, which means it isn't charging. We found this out the hard way, after leaving it flat on the picnic table with no shade for a full day, hoping to use it that night. It barely lit the area of the small picnic table enough to play a card game.

The Camp Chef Mountain Series Summit Solar Lantern seemed to work pretty good. The only problem I encountered with it was trying to charge a cell phone when there was no cell reception. It would not charge because it kept turning the phone on and when it was searching for service it would kill the battery faster than it would charge. So as long as you have cell reception it worked great, but with no cell reception it was a little disappointing.

I had this lamp for 6 month, is great for illumination during power failures. You can illuminate a room, pretty good no as good as your home lights but good enough for working, not for reading maybe if you sit beside it. You can charge it using 120 VAC, and I even tried charging my HTC with the lamp during a power failure, it charges but abut 1/3 of the speed using wall outlet.
