We just received our camp chef last night and were happily surprised by the size of the fire. Reading some of the compliants I was worried about it being a very small flame, but that is not the case. The fire was quite large(flames over a foot tall) and warm when turned on full. We ran it for about 4 hours last night and had no problems with it. Also the hose that was included was longer than we expected. From some of the previous compliants we were expecting a 3 foot hose, but the one provided was about 5-6 feet long which was plenty long enough for us. It did not come with logs, but did come with 3 bags of lava rocks- we only needed 2 to completly cover the fire ring.

The hissing noise is a bit annoying at first, but after a little while you dont even hear it.

Pros:

No fire smell

Allows you to have a fire when fire ban in effect

Easy to use- hook up and enjoy

Compact size when not using

Carrying case and cooking forks included

Cons:

Hissing noise

Faint smell of propane after first lighting

I took this product with me on our annual girls camping trip. Campfires were prohibited due to the severe dry/hot weather we'd had this year - In Washington, it's been the hottest/driest summer on record. Having the Fire RIng for all to enjoy at night gave us the true feeling of a campfire. It's easy to set up, Easy to use, and LEGAL in campgrounds because it's a controlled fire. Everyone truly enjoyed being able to sit around the "campfire" and share our stories, sing, laugh, and make for a memorable camping trip. THanks Camp Chef. Portable Fire RIng will be a staple at future camping events.

This item, as tested while camping and at home worked perfectly. At first it does not feel as though it will work, but once the ceramic logs and lava rocks heat up, then this firepit puts out good heat. We tried it while camping, and it was extremely windy, but the wind never put the flame out.

The carry bag works good as well, holding the hose and keeping the ceramic logs and lava rocks in place.

I agree that the hose could be a little longer, to keep the propane tank further away.
