4.0 out of 5 stars Ok for the price, but not as good as Lodge
This pan is pretty good for the sale price that I paid, but they are not as good as Lodge pans. This pan is made in China vs. US, and it is inferior in quality. The edges are rougher and not as "polished" of a product as Lodge. If you are looking for aesthetics, I would recommend Lodge over this pan, but if price is important, I would recommend this pan. 1.0 out of 5 stars Not as described
Researched and found Cook's review stating that this was the heaviest cast iron skillet around, great for heat retention etc. It is listed at 9 lbs. When I received mine it felt light so I weighed it, 6.8 lbs which is lighter that any of my other 12 inch skillets. I called camp chef and they said they had changed them because people said they were too heavy. I told her...

When I received mine it felt light so I weighed it, 6.8 lbs which is lighter that any of my other 12 inch skillets. I called camp chef and they said they had changed them because people said they were too heavy. I told her that it said 9 lbs on their web site and she said "oh, I guess we need to change that" I asked her why they would change the only feature that gave their skillet a "best buy" rating, she said that it was an engineers decision. All in all, don't buy if you are looking for a heavy duty skillet.

After giving away all my mother's cast iron skillets, and using the "new improved" non-stick ones (and finding them unsatisfactory in the long run), I turned to my beloved Cook's magazine reviews of equipment for help. They recommended this skillet, which I ordered. Cheap, works well, no hassle with the non-stick surface scratching or delaminating! Old technology sometimes IS better, and cheaper.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent skillet, August 10, 2006
This review is from: The Camp Chef SK-12 Cast Iron Skillet, 12 Inch Diameter (Kitchen)
I use this whenever I saute or fry something on the stove-top or grill-top. Heat is evenly distributed to the food in the pan, and it's easy to clean. Very pleased.

This skillet would survive a nuclear war. Heavy, thick and indestructible. It's actually difficult to wash this thing by holding it by the handle with one hand and scrubbing with the other due to its heft. It's nice to know that not only can I cook worry-free scrambled eggs for any potential burglar, I can also knock him out with the skillet for my own safety.

I have owned this for over a year and I still love it! It is heavy, but works great! I also love the design on the bottom of it.

Oh boy, I just "love" my Camp Chef SK-12 skillet. No more uneven burning of eggs, bacon, etc, what-so-ever.

It's a bloody wonderful investment.

Nice pan, but not what was pictured. I expected it to say Lewis and Clark on bottom, but had some other thing down there. Too much trouble to return.

4.0 out of 5 stars One thing to iron out -, June 7, 2011

Purchased this item because of a high rating from America's Test Kitchen. It does come pre-tempered from the factory (in China). Nice skillet, but my only problem is the logos cast into the bottom of the pan. I use an electric stove and (with the cast logos) it does not sit stable on the burner. You have to "hunt" for a position that it will not rock. I am actually looking to get the logo milled off the bottom at a machine shop. Other than that, it is a heavy skillet that should last generations with proper care.

3.0 out of 5 stars I don't care for the embossed bottom of the skillet, November 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: 12" Cast Iron Skillet
The bottom of the skillet is embossed with a large commemorative "Lewis & Clark Corps of Discovery" embellishment. You may really like this, you may think it's tacky (like me, thus my middling score) or you may not care at all. See the picture I uploaded to decide for yourself before buying it.
