Very good light and powerful unit... Maybe to hot a burner but it sure does it's job... We canned Salmon in the field in Alaska..

I've had this stove for over a year now and it's a champ. Much more heavy duty then a dual-fuel coleman or the like. You can actually cook on this. The burners are heavy duty and it hooks up to a standard propane tank. Great for surviving weeks without power (I live in a hurricane area) or portable enough to go camping, deer lease weekends, or tailgating if you're cooking for a crew or want to make real food.

This is the best stove for the money. It is heavier than most two burner stoves because of the cast iron burners. It will put out a lot of heat. The temp contols let you dial it up or down. One word of warning, don't buy the case that Amazon recommends for this stove. It is not the right one and you will just have to send it back. Get the Camp Chef model # CB-SSUNV. It is the right case for this stove.Campware Sport Utility Stove Bag

Hello Camp Chef...good bye coleman,
This review is from: Camp Chef Sport Utility DJ-60LW Table Top Sport Stove (Lawn & Patio)
Thank you Camp Chef Weekender!
My Coleman propane and white gas stoves and low BTU camper stove took ages to boil water at high altitude if at all and frankly just didn't have enough room to do much "serious" cooking. For me, good food makes a good camping trip. Frustrated, I took a leap and bought a bigger "Yukon" sized 2 burner Camp Chef...Mistake. Great stove, it was just too big and too heavy for my purposes. Sadly, I returned it, but before I did I browsed through the Camp Chef catalog and lo and behold there it was...."The Weekender"...a suitcase style stove with cast iron burners with 30,000 BTU each and it looked to be built to take some abuse. I HAD TO HAVE IT! ...and thusly, the Weekender found it's way into my life and my camping meals have improved tremendously. This stove goes with me every time we go camping...car camping with the Cub Scouts and with our pop-up camper, I even banished the stock camper stove to the attic and take the Weekender instead (you can buy and adapter hose to connect directly to your camper...Sweet!). The Weekender puts off enough heat I was able to boil water in a 50 gallon galvanized stock tank. (Elk taxidermy project...don't ask) If you are looking to buy, here's a couple of things to keep in mind... 1. Construction is steel and cast iron - this is not a light weight stove 2. Cast iron griddle - you probably need one...if you get one, buy a flame diffuser plate to go between the burner and the griddle to more evenly disburse the heat across the griddle. You will be happy you did. 3. Size. This stove is probably 3x larger(wider for sure and definitely taller) than a 2 burner Coleman camp stove. This stove doesn't run on the 1 lb green propane tanks. You will need to have a 5, 10 or 20 lb propane tank to use this. Not a problem but something to note. 4. Stove does not come with an igniter to light the burners but they can be added if you like. The only to possible "cons" I have for this stove are minimal. 1. knobs are somewhat exposed and seem like they could be broken off if transit but I haven't had that happen. 2. Latches that hold the lid down and wind screens in place are sturdy but could latch a bit tighter. Minor nits. Buy this stove with confidence and bring your outdoor kitchen up a level...or two!

This is a great compact stove for tailgating or if you "camp" from a prairie whale or a popup. Excellent for community events like World Tai Chi day or the club or fire department picknick.
Unlike the burners on the Camp Chef Camping Outdoor Oven with 2 Burner Camping Stove (see my review) this will boil 2 quarts of water even in adverse conditions and do it quickly. It stays lit much better than the burners on the oven particularly when on high. The Good: Well made given the weight constraints. The way the wind shield wings attach is much sturdier than most. Puts out a lot of heat, even when turned down. The legs attach with captive machine screws easily. Folds up securely into a compact bundle with a suitcase handle. Low legs make it easy to use on a picnic table or tailgate. Captive wrench on the hose for the burner attachment. If you take the regulator and hose off it and the legs stow inside the case. The bad: Puts out a lot of heat, even when turned down, finer control would be good. Uses up propane quickly--well DUH! Low legs mean uncomfortable bending unless it is set on something. The ugly: Puts out a lot of heat so sitting it directly on most things or close (<8') under things is contraindicated. Takes a while to cool enough to be closed and stowed away. If used as an emergency device needs shelter from winds >~20kn on high Or about 10kn on low. Needs to be well ventilated so not suitable as a heat source by its self. Oddball tank to burner connection, if used heavily order a spareCamp Chef HRL replacement hose and regulator, 1 PSI; it connects to the large male threads on the outside of the valve--not all propane cylinders have them. Tank attachment is a large female rather than the more common small male. So if you use a Y adapter like Century Tool 9074 Y Cylinder Adapter you will need an additional adapter like the Onward Multi Corp 11051 Adapter and a 1 5/16" open end wrench. As you tighten the large female knob on the adapter it unscrews the small male end from the small female Y and No I am not reading from the The Complete Kama Sutra : The First Unabridged Modern Translation of the Classic Indian Text If a second device is also high flow you will need a second bottle. No pizeo ignition needs a long match or US Forge Welding Single Flint Lighter #00506. The flame is invisible in sunlight. Overall well thought out set of burners, a highly desirable supplement to the oven. BTW its easier to put the legs in the vehicle outside the case. They can be attached by just turning the case upside down.

Purchased for camping in improved/semi-improved campgrounds with scouts.
More than adequately prepared 80+ servings of pasta / homemade red sauce on our last outing. Was able to boil 6 gallons of water for pasta / seafood boil in less than an hour (starting from about 70 degF). Much better deal on a BTU/$ and long-term use when compared to stove using the small bottles of propane.

We bought the Camp Chef stove for (what else...) camping! I ordered one on another store's website and it arrived damaged, but I really wanted a table top stove that had legs and wouldn't take up my picnic table space while camping. So I took that one back and then ordered the same product from Amazon. It arrived in perfect condition.
I was surprised at first that you need a full size (16 gal) tank to run this. I was under the assumption (my own fault I am sure) that it would use those little propane bottles. But after the 2nd camping trip when we actually brought the right size tank I realized why it needed a huge tank. This stove is POWERFUL! It boiled a large stock pot of water within 10 min! I also love that when it is not in use you can close it and have additional prep space! We also bought the Camp Chef grill box and it worked perfectly over one burner! This stove isn't going to be only for camping. After using it I told my husband that I plan on using it on the deck at home for parties! It will help free up the kitchen!

In years past our fishing trips have been slowed down by low BTU camp stove taking a long time to boil water---NOT THIS YEAR! The stove was easy to set up and operate, and is compact enough to fit into my Jeep Wrangler. The quality is very good. Amazon's service, as usual, was super!

This review is from: Camp Chef Weekender 2-Burner Stove 2012 (Misc.)
I bought this on the stellar reviews and the quality of my Camp Chef Expedition 3X.
Some problems. The lid and wind screens would not lock into position and thus would not stay up. The inside pan was dented by the legs being jammed in for travel/shipping. The burners are mounted to the flimsy bottom sheet metal that is not reinforced. Although it would not necessarily affect function the burner assembly looked shoddy and twisted. The legs and their attachment also looked inadequate for serious use. Bottom line the quality is not what I expected from Camp Chef and this one is going back. Not one of CHINA's finest exports. Thumbs Up for Amazon's return policy! |
