5.0 out of 5 stars A must for your summer reading list!
Original, intelligent, out of this world.... Summer camp in the Mojave Desert? Aliens, monsters, werewolfs, ghosts, strange experiments? Einstein P. Fleet, the protagonist, is an original - likeable, endearing, pathetic and heroic all at the same time. At times, I literally laughed out loud! A great read to share with the kids or an opportunity for you to revisit...

3.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly fun.
Gina and Dann Gershon, Camp Creepy Time: The Adventures of Einstein P. Fleet (Putnam, 2007)

So Gina Gershon's film career has been limited to the indie scene and TV appearances for a while now, neither of which pays the bills, so why not turn to a writing career? (We can't all be Jennifer Tilly and become professional poker players, I guess.) The first output...

I highly recommend this quirky and cleverly written novel. Cudos to the Gershons!

3.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly fun., November 1, 2007

Gina and Dann Gershon, Camp Creepy Time: The Adventures of Einstein P. Fleet (Putnam, 2007)

So Gina Gershon's film career has been limited to the indie scene and TV appearances for a while now, neither of which pays the bills, so why not turn to a writing career? (We can't all be Jennifer Tilly and become professional poker players, I guess.) The first output of said writing career: Camp Creepy Time, a young adult horror-comedy. Now, I'll be the first to admit I picked this up thinking "okay, let's see if we can toss Gina Gershon into the Paris-and-Nicole Book Dumpster." More fool me-- this thing is good. Really good.

Einstein P. Fleet is your typical middle-school geek, messing with computers all the time, having no friends that aren't at the other end of a keyboard, getting out in the sun once a year, maybe. His parents decide it's high time for him to get out into the fresh air, and enroll him at Camp Creepy Time, a theme camp in the desert for monster-movie aficionados. Things seem off from the time Einstein gets to the camp, but when campers start disappearing, Einstein decides he, along with a rebellious girl who doesn't seem to be a camper and the camp ghost, needs to try and figure out what's going on before he's the next to go on an unscheduled walkabout.

This is definitely fluff reading, juvenile style, but don't let that throw you off. Camp Creepy Time is a well-plotted, readable story with amusing (if somewhat shallow) characters, a fun mystery, and some original ideas. Definitely one for the monster movie fan on your Christmas list. *** ½

5.0 out of 5 stars VERY CREEPY (and funny)!!!, February 22, 2008

You simply can't go wrong with this wacky zany summer send-up. Einstein P. Fleet, a loner-nerd trapped at a hellish summer camp in the Mojave Desert, leads us through a wild storyline of escape, with monster costumes, vampires, werewolves and aliens all in the mix.

This fast-paced, well-written farce is a quick, irreverent, hilarious read for kids and adult-kids. Highly recommended. It's no surprise that Dreamworks has this story in script development....Can't wait for the movie!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Young Ignatius J. Reilly, May 10, 2007

Camp Creepy Time is a hoot! Einstein P. Fleet is a young, hysterical version of Ignatius J. Reilly, except Fleet's world is filled with very real monsters. I laughed at how Fleet viewed life and, most particularly, camp life. Fleet is at once curmudgeonly and delightful. Readers, male and female and of all ages, will enjoy the wild ride from Gershon's proficient and fast moving writing. I hope there will be many more Fleet adventures in the works!

5.0 out of 5 stars A PERFECT SUMMER ADVENTURE, May 14, 2007
This review is from: Camp Creepy Time (Hardcover)
A friend gave me this book and I spent a weekend on a fantastic adventure enjoying the ups and downs of Einstein P. Fleet. For younger readers this is an excellent book with all the trimmings (werewolves, vampires, aliens, ghosts) and an excellent cast of characters as well. I highly recommend this book as a light summer read or for all younger readers who are looking for a proper adventure. It is well written with good plot lines and story arcs. Well Done.

4.0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Teens Read Too, March 14, 2008
This review is from: Camp Creepy Time (Hardcover)
Einstein P. Fleet has already logged hundreds of hours trying to blow the whistle on baddies. Through his popular blog, The Smoking Peashooter, Einstein manages to spread the word on all sorts of conspiracy theories, and he's even had a lawsuit pending against him since the fourth grade, all thanks to "The Wilson Incident."

Naturally, he questions his parents' motives for sending him to a remote summer camp for eight agonizing weeks, with no Internet access and a limited supply of Twinkies. From the moment he steps on the bus and sees every other camper in a monster costume, Einstein worries that perhaps this particular camp may be much more difficult to deal with than any normal one would be.

Unfortunately for him and his unsuspecting parents, his fears are well-founded...

Chock full of werewolves, vampires, mummies, giant spiders, and greedy mobster aliens, this book provides the same brand of entertainment as a classically cheesy monster film. Highly recommended for reluctant readers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Clever, May 31, 2009
This review is from: Camp Creepy Time (Hardcover)
Camp Creepy Time is a funny, whacky fiction for all children with clever humor as well as suspense. My son read it first and giggled though the first four pages so much so that he felt a need to go back and read those pages aloud to me on a car trip. He was kept riveted to the book by the twists, turns and characters. You fall in love with Einstein and Roxie and cheer them on in the quest to save their fellow campers. A must read for the summer. Both kids and adults will enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Einstein P. Fleet rocks! And so does Camp Creepy Time!, June 22, 2009
This review is from: Camp Creepy Time (Hardcover)
I'm reading this book to my son and he just loves it. He especially likes Einstein, the main character. Camp Creepy Time is filled with aliens, ghosts, and all sorts of monsters that Einstein has to outwit in order to survive camp. Einstein also outwits the camp bully and stands up for himself and his friends in the process. We like that and we love the book. I'll read it again on my own!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great read for everone!, March 6, 2008
This review is from: Camp Creepy Time (Hardcover)
I got this book as a present and really had fun reading it. So much so, I ran out and bought 3 books, one for each of my nieces and nephews, ages 8-13. They loved it! We all had fun talking about the adventures of Einstein and his cohort. My 11-year-old niece really loved Roxie and has decided she wants to be an alien spy. I would recommend this book for anyone. We are all looking forward to the movie version to come out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't get your kids to read? Get them a copy of Creepy Time!, September 8, 2007
This review is from: Camp Creepy Time (Hardcover)
I recommended Camp Creepy Time to several friends as elective reading for camp. The kids loved reading this book and so did I. Einstein P. Fleet is a unique and wonderful character. He's an outsider with his own warped view of the world ---- a view that kids can easily identify with. The book is well written and full of laughs. I would highly recommend Camp Creepy Time to anyone, but especially to parents with kids ten and up who would rather do anything other than read a book. This is one that will grab their attention immediately.
