What I find wonderful about this 400+ page book is that the actual coverage of the massacre itself requires only a few pages. The author lays down foundational groundwork to introduce characters in context of the times. While the dialog is all fiction, it helps to make the story come alive. Perhaps I also appreciate the fact that my great-great grandfather is mentioned briefly in the book.
