Product Description
The first volume in a new series from author Ewan Grantham, Camp Handiba covers the lives of several handicapped teenagers who come to this summer camp for disabled kids to enjoy a special summer vacation. However, Camp Handiba has a number of secrets and plenty of suspense and humor to encourage readers to bring their own ideas of what could be happening with them.
The book opens with new counselors Scott and Becca Evans accompanying their wheelchair riding sister Zoe Evans to the camp. Here they meet up with a number of other campers and counselors, all under the careful watch of the camp director - Becky Turner. While Zoe already knows about some of the camp's secrets, it is at the campfire on the second night when Scott and Becca learn what is really happening. Readers then join the campers in exploring the caves of Shakota Island, and wondering if Native American folklore about the area might hold a key to unlocking the answers they are all searching for. In the midst of this, everyone spends time learning about each other, while trying to decide what it means to be "normal" anyway.
The book follows the "Light Novel" format with over 20 illustrations mixed into the story to help bring some color (literally for compatible platforms) to the proceedings.
