4.0 out of 5 stars This is okay.
After hearing this album I'm not too surprised what it sounds like. Sure, this isn't like some of Martin's powerfull albums, but come on it's a Christmas album with a list of tradtitional tunes that have been covered a hundred times. I wouldn't expect anything profound. This is good for what it is; a good Christmas album with a good voice. The naysayers need to get a...

Everyone that has heard Martin sing becomes a die hard, loyal fan. He is the most gifted singer on the market today. Everyone that has heard Martin sing becomes a die hard, loyal fan. He is the most gifted singer on the market today. I was excited to see a new CD out, especially in time for the holiday season, but I was quite disappointed. I suppose it was more a matter of the songs and not the artist. The Christmas songs chosen are common and sung too often. There are no suprises and no real feelings involved in these songs. Every other CD of his is powerful, emotional, and a tribute to what music can do for the soul. This, however, is not one of them. I enjoy his lyrics and the power behind them. Therefore, this CD did not do it for me. I did enjoy the bare-bones acoutics of the CD and the songs were given a Martin twist. His father(?) even sang on one song. I am still a fan of Martin and will buy his next CD. PLEASE give his other CDs a chance, just not this one. Sorry Marty...

The naysayers need to get a life and give this guy a break (bad christmas spirit on their part; they might as well get the crucifix and nails while they're at it).

5.0 out of 5 stars A little short, but excellent., December 20, 2005

This review is from: Camp Holiday (Audio CD)
It's short running time being it's only downfall, I love this CD. Other reviewers are entitled to their opinion, but as for me, this CD takes these already timeless and beloved songs to an entirely new level, with their "around the campfire" feel (I'd have loved to have been invited to that "recording session"). But with the one new song celebrating all holidays, without being so nauseatingly P.C., this makes a nice addition to your Elvis, Sinatra and Burl Ives Christmas recordings.

4.0 out of 5 stars Add it to your collection, and pick up some other Martin Sexton while you're at it.., November 22, 2005
This review is from: Camp Holiday (Audio CD)
For those of us who have experienced Martin Sexton's music, adding this holiday cd is a given as we wait anxiously for his next album. For those of you coming across this while looking for holiday music, don't hesitate to pick it up. The renditions of "I'll Be Home For Christmas" and "O Christmas Tree" alone make it worth the buy, but there are other strong tracks, too. Do yourself a favor, spend the extra $$ and buy Live Wide Open as well, a live cd that has "stranded on a deserted" island quality to it. Live Wide Open is also the closest thing to the magic of a live Martin Sexton show. Enjoy...

1.0 out of 5 stars Huge Disappointment, November 22, 2005
By
This review is from: Camp Holiday (Audio CD)
I was very disappointed in this album from one of my favorite artists. The guy has soul, but you can't hear it on these songs, very boring. Only 30 minutes of music was another disappointment. If you want Christmas music go for Diana Krall's new holiday album, if you want to give Marty a try, pick up any of his other albums but please don't start with this one.

I feel almost sacrilegious writing a bad review for Marty, I have always had so much respect for him, but this is not a good CD. To me it comes off as being self indulgent and like he is just going through the motions to get a CD out. I love Martin Sexton. I have been going to his shows since 1997 and from that time until about 2002 I would have said there was no equal as a performer. He could take you to a different place when he performed. Maybe it's because I have been patiently waiting for over five years to hear anything new from Marty, anything. His shows these past few years have been a sham for what he is capable of, just tallying up the cash and going through the motions. For that reason I suppose this CD was doomed for me, but it was something new and I just had to try it. Martin Sexton sittin' around the campfire singing yes, but I didn't get a sense that he was feeling this music or putting a new spin on those songs and making those songs his own. My own family puts out this CD every year under our Christmas tree. I can wholehearted give Black Sheep five stars, the rest of his CDs four stars, so in comparison I just honestly cannot give this more than one star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Martin Sexton fan not surprised with album's brilliance, December 17, 2005
This review is from: Camp Holiday (Audio CD)
Martin Sexton brings his own touch to some songs that I didn't particularly like before hearing this album. I have even more respect for Martin now. Who can pull off a Christmas album? Martin can and did. I love it.

Martin Sexton is one of a kind. I have really just been getting to know him and have enjoyed everything i've heard from him. Went to see him in pereson and have to put him up there with the top shows i've seen. This is his Christams disc, but all i've heard from him is pretty good.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this album, December 14, 2008

This is my favorite christmas album outside of the traditional albums - very martin sexton, very chill and completely unannoying - as I often find christmas albums to be (even from my favorite artists). I have listened to it continously over the last few holiday seasons and never got tired of it. Highly recommended!
