Editorial Reviews

Are you ready for the summer? S'mores and sing-a-longs? Crafts and campfires? Singer-songwriter Lisa Loeb takes us to a special session of summer camp on her new children's CD, ''Camp Lisa.'' The disc includes 19 tracks and some very special guest campers including Kay Hanley, Dave Gibbs, Nina Gordon, Jill Sobule, Lee Sklar, Maia Sharp and funnyman Steve Martin. ''Camp Lisa'' is the follow-up to her debut kids CD, the award-winning ''Catch The Moon'' and is slated for release on September 16 on Loeb's own Furious Rose Productions. ''Camp Lisa'' celebrates the summer camp tradition with a collection of new tunes and old favorites. Produced by Loeb and her writing partners Dan Petty and Michelle Lewis and largely inspired by '70s rock and pop, ''Camp Lisa'' is a magical musical destination for the kid in all of us.

Lisa Loeb - No Fairy Tale EPK

Biography

Lisa Loeb’s highly anticipated return to the pop/rock world after immersing herself in other projects may be called No Fairy Tale, but it’s actually another charmed chapter of her storybook-like career which began in the mid-90’s. She emerged from the New York coffeehouse and club circuits with her trademark Grammy® nominated hit “Stay (I Missed You)”--the ... Read more in Amazon's Lisa Loeb Store

I bought this album for the song "Best Friend" and because once upon a time, I knew all these traditional camp songs. In the 22 years since I served as a camp counselor I've forgotten most of them and now I have a brand new baby granddaughter to sing them to, so it's time to relearn! Not to mention 2 very good friends that were on staff with me and will love to sing these with their kids. And in the car, when no one is around... although it's marketed as a kid's album, if you love whimsy and have happy summer camp memories like I do, you'll enjoy it.

I have been a rabid fan of Lisa's since her first album, and unlike others who've wandered away from her, I've stayed loyal. I own every one of her releases, including singles, and I see her every time I get the chance--and have even brought my kids to see her perform. They, too, have long enjoyed her music, and "Catch the Moon" has been a staple in our house through three kids' preschool years--as well as a frequent gift for friends and relatives.

When I first heard Lisa was working on this CD, I was very excited, seeing it as a natural extension of "Moon" and a natural fit for my now older and camp-happy kids. So, I didn't hesitate to purchase it, without hearing so much as a song. I knew I'd like it, and I knew my kids would, too.

Man, was I wrong.

The minute I popped the CD on in the car, my son--who even has a bit of a crush on Lisa and will listen to her music even though he normally won't listen to "girl" music as he gets older--and I both had the same reaction: we cringed. We couldn't get through the corny first song and began fast forwarding, amazed as they got worse, not better. He finally begged me to turn it off, and I did, intent on trying it out on my daughters, ages 8 and 3.

In fairness, they like the CD--no, they love it. But then, they'll listen to Barney, the Wiggles, and those annoying kids who sing on the Kidz Bop and Mommy and Me CDs. As a stay-at-home dad, no one is more grateful than I am for the "family music" phenomenon, since it allows me to play the likes of Ralph's World, the Sippy Cups, and yes, Lisa Loeb and Liz Mitchell, rather than that annoying stuff. But "Camp Lisa" is, after repeated listens, just as bad and perhaps worse than Barneyesque music.

We checked Camp Lisa out of the library, renewed it several times, and finally decided it needed to be our own. This is an adorable CD. It is a great CD for kids just going off to sleepover camp, because the songs tell the story of the end of school, getting ready for camp, being nervous about meeting new friends, lots of silly, plain, old camp songs, a great song about a rainy day, and then at the end, about not wanting to leave camp. We have even given it as a birthday gift to my daughter's friend! Buy it and sing along.

Great stuff....my 6-yr old LOVES it, and I enjoy it as well. Definitely a win win! We have her Silly Sing-Along Book/CD, which is also great. I'd compare it to Dan Zanes for really good music that everyone will love.

My three-year-old son and I both enjoy singing along to these songs. Some are original and some are old favorites. Our favorite is the "disappointing pancake".

I bought this last year when it came out and it's one of my 3 year daughter's and my favorite cd's. We rock out to this every morning. She especially loves the "Wake Up" and "Peanut butter and Jelly" songs.
