Excellent Resource book for kids camping,

This review is from: Camp Out!: The Ultimate Kids' Guide (Paperback)
I am using a camping theme in my 3rd-4th classroom this year. I saw this book on Amazon and decided to give it a try. It was all that I hoped it would be plus a lot more. The book is packed with pratical ideas for kids to use to prepare to go camping as well as while they are camping. The book is a permanent fixture on my desk and the kids and I are using it as a reference all through the day.

This is a great book that will spark many wonderful experiences with my daughter. For sure 5 stars!!
Major sections include activities, crafts, nature, and cooking. This was a logical organization, but as the father of a younger child I think it would have been nice to have some guidance and organization by age appropriateness.

Camp Out! is full of creative and informative lessons and fun activities. Truly a unique book. Any kid from video game addict to natural born scout will find this book engaging! it contains kid-level explanations without talking down to kid-level. As an adult I enjoyed reading this book and felt the cartoons weren't too cutesy. Good for both boys and girls.

We borrowed this book at the library for an upcoming camping trip and decided to purchase it! It is a one-stop book for everything you need to know to camp (back packing, tent, trailer etc.). Safety, meal plans, knots, crafts, activities, star-gazing, trail marking, animal tracking, packing and so much more!! The kids loved looking at it to prepare for our trip. We are looking forward to years of camping with our family, this will be a mainstay on our bookshelves.

I bought this for my grandchildren and have been having the time of my life doing such things as "sprouting my socks". This book is filled with many great activities for kids and adults as well. Simply delightful. It encourages us to make the most of the few precious moments we have to spend with our little guys.

This book is awesome! It is chock-full of great ideas! This book covers everything from making all kinds of different knots to identifying animal tracks to outdoor games to the night sky and much, much more. I am helping with a Brownie troop getting ready to do an overnight camping trip and this book has helped tremendously with ideas of activities for the girls. If you can only afford one book--this is it!

Some parts of this book are quite interesting in its ideas for activities. All the games described are basically hide & seek while making animal sounds. the recipes are easy and fun for kids, the packing list and common sense tips are straightforward, easy for kids to follow or read. the songs and stories are typical, been there, done that, nothing new. Illustrations are quirky and cute.
reccomend for the 1st time camper or if you want to give your kids something to read before the trip.

This book is by far the most comprehensive camping guide for kids. Has so much information! Tons of activities and lots of useful scientific knowledge. It is worth buying the book for the night sky chapter alone. It has all of the information about constellations and their myths that the other books on the market have, but also has the best seasonal star maps with information about how to read them, and information about the moon and other visible planets. The information about tracks and scat is also very informative and easy to read. The only complaint that I have is the book may be too big for it to be carried around while hiking, etc. Wish there was a day version and night version to break it up and make it easier to carry.

I purchased this book for my 8 year old cousin, but when it arrived and I began picking through it, realized I may need a copy myself.
The book moves quickly from topic to topic, contains recipes, cute illustrations, and tons of information. After receiving the book, my cousin wanted to immediately make a "one tree tent" in the living room. My aunt and uncle were also thrilled with the purchase, as they found it very interesting and well written as well. It will serve the family well for many years. There is information about animals, stars and constellations, scary stories, knots, wind, clouds...just about everything you needed to know about the great outdoors without being preachy or long winded. It's a book well suited to many ages, and has good information even for people who don't camp. (Though it may make you pitch a tent in your backyard once just to try it!) Camp Out makes you want to go outside and do something...it doesn't matter what.

This book is nice for motivated older children (8 and up) to flip through on their own before a family camping trip. They can fold down the pages of things they'd like to try and really play a role in preparing for the adventure. Its also great for an organized parent who wants to have some rainy day plans, arts and crafts projects, or nature activities on hand. Just make sure to check the supply lists (all pretty basic) before you go on your trip. FYI, a lot of the projects are great for doing in the backyard, too. A nicely laid-out book with a nice tone.
