Years ago I liked it for its name.

With a large width screw with knife sharp edges this corkscrew will pull anything, even rotten corks, with very little effort.

Now, I love introducing my friends to it, and I'm glad to see that it is much easier to find these days than it used to be.

Bicycling enthusiasts worldwide are well aware of the creative genius of Tullio Campagnolo, who invented the quick-release mechanism for bicycle wheels (early 1930's) and produced the first reliable cable-operated parallelogram derailleur (circa 1949).

Fewer are aware of his still legendary 'BIG' corkscrew, introduced in 1966. Its patented self-centering telescopic bell-shaped cover always places the screw in the central part of the cork. This reliably prevents the glass from chipping and makes it easy to pull out even the most stubborn cork without shaking the bottle, which, as you know, ruins aged wines.

The worm screw of hardened stainless steel has been developed so that it never pierces out the cork's lower surface, thus preventing cork fragments falling into the wine. Its wide and extremely sharp profile provides maximum grip on the cork. The two large levers enable the corks to be pulled out of bottles of the finest vintages without disturbing the sediments.

Interestingly, the bolts that fasten the handles are the same as used by Campy to fasten chain rings on their classic road bike Nuovo Record crankset. Use of the finest raw materials and beautiful Campagnolo precision make this the perfect indulgence for the bike or wine enthusiast.

Bottom line: This is a BIG, ostentatious tool that is intelligently engineered. Much of the body is aluminum and will discolor or pit if not cleaned after each use. I bought mine in 1979, and with care it will last a lifetime.

We purchased our initial Campagnolo Big Corkscrew in Milan 4 years ago. We actually paid more for it there! We were really pleased with the ease of use and the quality of the product. With the first one still in perfect condition, we were seeking a second for another residence. We had, over the years, purchased many corkscrews which appeared to offer similar ease and durability, but did neither. I don't gush over many products. I do over this one.

Amazing corkscrew. I can jus see Tulio Campagnolo when his engineers gave him the first look. Good for problem bottles or your best dinner guest showing.

Fifteen years ago a friend showed me his Campy corkscrew, which blew me away, so I immediately ordered one. Since then mine has opened thousands of bottles of wine yet still looks and performs like new. Even the most reluctant cork quickly shrugs its shoulders and simply yields to this superbly designed device. This is one of the few "machines" that you cannot believe could ever be improved; it's that good. Now, I love introducing my friends to it, and I'm glad to see that it is much easier to find these days than it used to be. Just spend the money; you will absolutely never, ever regret it, and every time you use it you'll feel great (even before you drink a drop of wine).

I purchased this corkscrew 26 years ago in Italy. I still use it today and I always get comments on how different it is and how well it works. I recently purchased another corkscrew for my son when he moved into his first apartment. It is something that one has forever!

Half the reason for buying it is that it has been an icon for over thirty years. I first found out about this product while working building bikes and dreaming of anything and everything campy.

Ok... Done with history. More recently I've been looking for an easy to use corkscrew. I've purchased a few "rabbit-ears" devices, and while they worked well initially, they were not made to stand up over time. I have no doubts that this product will last as long as I need a corkscrew. The pivot points use the same bolts that campy uses for their chain-rings. The unit is heavily built. The screw is a beautiful piece of engineering.

The only downside is that it can mess up the cork a bit, but I haven't found any cork that this thing hasn't extracted. Years ago I liked it for its name. Now I like it for its quality engineering and its functionality.
