A wonderful pick-me-up on a cold day.

I think the quality of Campbell's soups has decline while the salt content has risen .

This is one of my Mom's favorite soups, and it has become impossible to find locally.

This is the bigger badder brother of regular tomato soup. And Campbell's is the best brand of tomato bisque I've ever had. I like it because it's creamy, sharp, sweet and has chunks of tomato in it. I don't know what else to say except that I've had this ever since I was a kid and it tastes really great. If you want to dress it up you can add some cognac or croutons in it, but other than that, it's great as is.

Not "just ordinary Campbell's." Too much salt, of course, and improved by a blob of sour cream, but better than the "premium" brands.

I have long enjoyed this soup - for two reasons. In fact my wife just served it to me now!

But it has been hard to find at grocery stores. Fortunately I found it on Amazon's Subscribe and Save program.

The first reason I like this soup is that it is a vegetable beef soup but one supplemented with a carbohydrate - the barley. In other words, it is more like a complete meal with a bit of meat, some veggies, some carbs, and broth.

The second reason is simple - I like the taste of this soup when served hot.

Several local grocery stores say that Campbells have dropped this product from their line. So if you like it, buy it now from Amazon.

My husband and I just brought home some of the tomato basil soup and also some of the chicken noodle/rice variety. Yesterday we tried the chicken rice and thought it was very good, we just added a little spice. Today we tried the tomato basil and were so disappointed. We liked the creamy texture and tomato bits but the soup was WAY TOO SWEET! We have felt that the regular tomato soup in the can is way too sweet and were hoping that this variety would be better.Would like to know what could be added to mitigate the cloying sweetness. We will not be able to eat the remaining cans so it will either go back or to the food pantry.

Like Campbell's Bean & Bacon, it's a classic soup that tastes the same as it did 40 years ago. Beef, carrots, barley, stock. I'm sure at some point, everyone who grew up eating this will be dead and the "kewl" kids won't know what the hell to do with this stuff because it doesn't contain roasted poblano chiles and artisanal sea salt. Until then, enjoy a simple unsophisticated soup from a simpler era.

Back in the Sixties and Seventies, this CAMPBELL'S BEEF WITH VEGETABLES AND BARLEY condensed soup was advertised on TV as one of "The Manhandlers." "How do you handle a hungry MAAAN?" bellowed a male singer to the accompaniment of folk-type guitars. OK, it was a more innocent time, though George Carlin had a field day with the jingle. After many years away from this product, I decided to have a go at the 12-pack here, because (a) the stuff is almost impossible to find in stores anymore; (b) I liked it as a kid; and (c) as long as shipping is free, the price at about a buck sixty a can is reasonable enough.

Other than the addition of a pop-top lid, Beef With Vegetables & Barley hasn't changed much over the years, and there are both good and bad points to that. If you like barley (a favorite makeweight in many canned vegetable soups), this one is tops. It is very solid and has a nice toasted barley flavor to it, its major claim to fame, although Target's "Market Pantry" condensed Vegetable Beef soup runs a close second. Along with the barley go some vegetables, a heavy beef stock, and a little beef; I suppose, though, that Campbell's wouldn't wish to call it "Barley with some vegetables in a beef-flavored stock with a little bit of beef." I do like it, and other than something like Bean with Bacon or Chili it's about the heaviest condensed soup I know. However, it comes up short in the nutrition department. One serving (defined by the maker as half a cup, though after dilution with an equal amount of water, it's a cup) contains 80 calories, 3g of protein (not very high) 3g of fiber (relatively better), is relatively low in fat, contains a little Vitamin A but has a whopping 37% RDI of sodium.

My favorite since I was a little girl. I don't know why I can't find it in the stores anymore.
