Book Description

June 1, 1995 Doubleday Outdoor Bibles
A comprehensive and up-to-date guide for anyone who enjoys camping whether it's out of a car from a backpack, or even in a recreational vehicle. It's no wonder that camping and backpacking are the second most popular activities in America today. When compared to other vacations, camping is the best value all around. It's economical, adventuresome, and convenient --especially for families with children. From week-long backpacking trips in the Rockies to car camping across the country, the Camper's And Backpacker's Bible has all the important information to make any trip enjoyable. Author Tom Huggler shows the reader how to select and price state of-the-art backpacking equipment such as tents, stoves, sleeping bags, hiking boots, and other essential gear. But equipment alone doesn't guarantee a successful camping trip. Equally important is "campcraft or the essential skills required for being a knowledgeable camper-aid with over thirty years' experience, the author explains all the basics, including map and compass reading, how to purify water, what to look for in a campsite, and how to get a good night's sleep under the stars. Illustrated with 150 black-and-white photographs and drawings, the Camper's And Backpackers Bible also gives detailed instructions on planning canoe and bicycle trips, as well as trips to America's national parks and foreign countries.

The Campers And Backpacker's Bible is an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to fully enjoy the great outdoors.

This review is from: The Camper's and Backpacker's Bible (Doubleday Outdoor Bibles) (Paperback)
PErsonally I found this book unhelpful for backpacking. It had few pages of backpacking, but more of camping. Between backpacking and camping, there is an exremly big differnce. I suggest for women, Woman's Guide to Backpacking by Adrienne Hall, or books such as Backpacker's Everyday wisdom with 1001 tips. This book is written by Karen Berger and I suggest all of her books. There is though in this book, a few good sections on repacking food. Other then that, save your money and buy a better book. This is a waste of money and time.
