The best!,

Disregard the other reviews! As an camp outdoor cooking instructor, I have many years experience teaching cooking over a fire and have never found a more useful cookbook as this for my classes! Comprehensive and fun, this book has it all...pie iron recipes, in a skillet, on a stick, in a dutch oven and wrapped in aluminum...all meals are tasty and practical. I even give this book as an award each year to my 'Most Outstanding' camper.

Easy camping recipes,
This review is from: Campfire Cooking (Spiral-bound)
I have made 5 of the recipes in this book so far and have enjoyed them all. It covers all varieties of camp cooking from pie irons to dutch ovens to foil packets to the grill. The recipes I chose required no pre-cooked meat as stated in a previous review, and I have only seen a couple of recipes that do. The recipes are easy to assemble and some can be prepared to marinate before you leave home, making cooking on the road even easier. I found this a good basic campfire cookbook that gives you a little bit of everything and every campfire cooking method. I would recommend it.

Fun Ideas,
By Heather Rader (New Phila) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Campfire Cooking (Spiral-bound)
I had borrowed the book from the library hoping to get some good recipe ideas for camping. I found so many recipes that I'd like to try that I decided it was worth buying the book. I'm looking forward to trying these new recipes with the kids this summer. I didn't see a lot of recipes that called for pre-cooked foods but I was mostly looking for fun ideas for kids of all ages to prepare themselves.

Most of the recipes call for prepared meat, not too helpful if you want to actually "cook" on the fire. A few clever things, but I'm returning it, not very useful.

This is one of the best basic camp cookbooks for a scout troop. Simple recipes, plus a variety of cooking methods will give the boys lots of options when planning their camp out menu. Has recipes for cooking with sticks, paper bags, foil, skillet, Dutch ovens, and more.

Lots of great recipes!,
This review is from: Campfire Cooking (Spiral-bound)
If you are planning on going camping this summer or just having some fun by the backyard fire pit, Campfire Cooking offers several different ways to cook food over a campfire. They include making snacks and meals On a Stick, In a Pie Iron, Wrapped in Foil, In a Skillet, In a Dutch Oven or On the Grill. All of the recipes in Campfire Cooking are simple to put together and only use a few ingredients, but are so much better than just hot dogs and roasted marshmallows.
One idea they give for using a pie iron is bread filled with pizza fillings and cooked in a pie iron to make individual pizzas. Eating pizza while camping sounds good to me! I thought that their use of hollowed out oranges was innovative; the oranges are filled with biscuit dough or blueberry muffin batter, wrapped in foil and baked on the coals. Not only do you get a cute holder for the rolls and muffins, but I would love the extra citrus flavor, too! You can even eat gourmet dishes while you camp, like the pork chop dinner cooked in a skillet or the caramel apple crisp baked in a Dutch oven. My kid's all time favorite recipe for campout cooking was included, also -- banana boats, where you slice a banana (with the peel still on) and fill it with marshmallows and chocolate chips, wrap it all up in foil and put it on the coals until it is heated through. Well, the banana is healthy, right? Campfire Cooking is a really helpful resource for outdoor cooking, chock full of lots of great recipes for family fun!

I loved using this book while camping with the grandkids! My husband and I have cooked over campfires for years. Yes, this book is simplistic and that makes it a GREAT introduction to outdoor cooking. But, for us old timers, it's also a new look at things, and enjoyable food that the older kids can fix for us! Add it to your camping library!

A GREAT LITTLE RECIPE BOOK!,

This review is from: Campfire Cooking (Spiral-bound)
This is a GREAT LITTLE RECIPE BOOK, full of great campfire and family outing recipes that are fun to try and easy to use. I ordered several for Christmas gifts. There are recipes in here you'll probably remember from your childhood and "simpler times". A friend showed me her book and I knew right away that my family would love to have this little book to use and enjoy with their families.
I love to buy books through Amazon because, not only can I FIND them, but I can check to see if they are available at reduced prices from vendors who have used or overstock quanities. THANK YOU AMAZON for helping us find what we're looking for at prices we can afford!!
