1.0 out of 5 stars useless, August 16, 2005
By
Sue Too (Olympia, WA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Camping Montana (Regional Camping Series) (Paperback)
We bought two books from the Falcon regional camping series, and would not buy any more.

This book is organized in Sections around Montana towns. There is not a map showing the area each Section of the book covers.

There is no index.

We left Idaho driving North or Rt. 15, planning on stopping at one of the campgrounds marked on our AAA map near Sula, so I read through three Sections looking for campgrounds in the Sula area before discovering that this area is just not included in the book. We had to stop at a National Forest Service office for directions.

The campgrounds at Glacier National Park are in a Section labeled "Kalispell Area" as if this would mean more to the reader than the name of a National Park. The locations of the campgrounds are all given in terms of there distance from Kalispell as if everyone goes there first.

The information in this book on the areas it does cover is extremely limited.

Several of the campground discriptions state that the author had not been to them because of a fire. This sounds as if the author does not generally camp in Montana, but rather was trying to research all the campgrounds in the state in a single season.

1.0 out of 5 stars Extremely Limited Information, June 25, 2011
This review is from: Camping Montana (Regional Camping Series) (Paperback)
I have several great Falcon Guides, but this is certainly not one of them. There are not maps of the campsites and there is very limited information provided for each. The author does not often mention whether camps have shoreline sites, whether there are hiking opportunities nearby, whether the noise level is low or high, or whether pets are welcome. You basically don't get a very good idea of where you are going or what makes the different sites special. In addition, the books skips over a great number of great campgrounds. You can easily find better information on the internet for free.

"Moon Montana, Wyoming & Idaho Camping" is a much better and more thorough choice - and it covers three states!

This book is excellently written and organized in a way that is easy to find the area where you want to camp. Directions are well written, and the descriptions seem to be accurate.
