5.0 out of 5 stars Camtasia Guide Really Helps Me!
I recently purchased Camtasia Studio 5: The Definitive Guide because I started a new job developing web demos for a software company. Though I was familiar with Camtasia Studio, I had no prior experience working with it prior to this job. I bought the guide hoping it would help, and boy did it ever! I was able to create a professional demo within weeks of starting my job...

3.0 out of 5 stars Stuffed with info, but no quick start
Even though a CD is included, there is no "live" demo to step through the first stages, which is typically the hardest part for most people. Once you know the basics, a book like this is invaluable; it is stuffed full of great information. But, like most tech people, he seems to assume that we are all tech-y. I'm not. I did find a site online that seems more geared...

I recently purchased Camtasia Studio 5: The Definitive Guide because I started a new job developing web demos for a software company. Though I was familiar with Camtasia Studio, I had no prior experience working with it prior to this job. I bought the guide hoping it would help, and boy did it ever! I was able to create a professional demo within weeks of starting my job. The guide really helped me understand Camtasia Studio and it gave great tips (on reducing the file size, recording in small dimensions for web demos, buying the right equipment for audio recording, etc.) that I would have never even thought about without the guide. My demos are probably 100 times better than they ever would have been without this book. Thanks definitely goes to Daniel Park for writing such a helpful guide!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best technical manuals I've read, October 28, 2008

I had to learn Camtasia for my job and this book helped me get through the learning curve quickly. The writing isn't too dry and technical. The author balances the technical writing with exercises in each section. You'll be creating your first video within a day or two and having fun with it. This book is full of good information on Camtasia and has been a great reference tool. I still refer back to it to pick up more tips on polishing up my presentations. Although Camtasia does come with training videos, they don't go into the detail that this book does. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn Camtasia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very helpful, August 1, 2008

The only printed manual I could find for this great product.

If like me, you like to have a paper manual which you can mark and reference this is the only one out there!

When I first purchased the Camtasia Studio 5 I had no idea how to use it. This book goes in-depth to teach you all the functions of the software. It even gives you excercises to do as you learn them. If you want to learn everything there is to learn about Camtasia Studio then this is the book for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Two Thumbs Down, December 30, 2008

This review is from: Camtasia Studio 5: The Definitive Guide (Wordware Applications Library) (Perfect Paperback)
Bloated narrative, failure to adhere to technical writing best practices, a dearth of illustrations; Mr. Park's tome is more likely to be regarded as a doorstop than a usable instruction manual. Knowledgeable as the author is, he and his editors failed to produce a reference - quick or otherwise - that folks can rely on for at-hand help while using Camtasia. A simple, task-oriented approach is what is called for here, not the prolix narrative of personal asides and tips that one has to wade through before drawing a conclusion how to accomplish one's work. A great disappointment. Steer clear - unless of course reading this book (instead of, say, recording with Camtasia) is your goal.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is the definitive disappointment, November 22, 2008
This review is from: Camtasia Studio 5: The Definitive Guide (Wordware Applications Library) (Perfect Paperback)
Great expectations having read the user reviews we're not satisfied. This book has little or nothing more to offer than the help files available on the TechSmith web site. Definitely not a technical book, this is simply a walk through of the features of the program, obvious to anyone who can click a mouse on a menu item.

I did find a site online that seems more geared to beginners, so I think I'll start with that, and use this book later on.

This is a very well written book, in language that is easy to understand with hints and cautions that allows you to avoid any pit falls.
Well worth the money
