5.0 out of 5 stars Separate Purchase
I don't understand one thing ... why can I not purchase the lid and the container from the same seller? They are from the same manufacturer, but not sold anywhere as a set, and not available from the same place, so I have to pay separate shipping on each part.

I bought this item to make "Bread in 5 Minutes a Day," too. Great book! However, when I recieved the Cambro round, I sent it back. It is made of plastic #7, shown inside the recycling symbol on the bottom. Plastic #7 can contain BPA. If you are trying to avoid BPA in food storage items, I would avoid this item. Some states already have laws requiring baby food products be BPA-free and the FDA has medical concerns about it, including potential links to breast and prostate cancer and early onset puberty. Why add more to my home? I would hope Amazon would add the plastic type to this item's product description to inform customers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE., January 27, 2009

I've been using Cambro containers for years. I just bought this round 6 quart to make my dough for Artisan Bread In Five Minutes. I have the square containers, but the round is easier to use as the dough doesn't get trapped in the corners.

I use them to store large batches of stews, soups, etc.. overnight. The next day I remove the fat and serve what I need and freeze the rest in FoodSaver bags in individual or larger servings. Lids are sold separately - so don't forget to order one. Cambro can be purchased at most restaurant supply stores either clear or translucent. They come in 2 - 4- 6 - 8 quart sizes (and much larger too). I bought the 4 qt. to use when I half the dough recipe,

They are not airtight so you cannot freeze in them - nor can you use them in the oven.

P.S. I don't work for the Cambro ... I wish I did - then I would get their stuff cheaper :-)

3.0 out of 5 stars Come on, where's the lid?, December 31, 2009

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I ordered this storage container because it showed us as an "also purchased" for people who bought the 5 minute Artisan bread book. It was obviously something I'd need, and free shipping w/Amazon Prime, so I didn't spend much time thinking about the order nor did I read the reviews. So, I was pretty surprised when it arrived with no lid and then I discovered that Amazon charges as much for the lid as for the container and takes 3-5 weeks to deliver.

The container is fine and I'll use it. But come on now, Amazon. Either give us the lid or clearly show it as a "better together" choice so customers don't get surprised when they order.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just right!, January 27, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I purchased this along with the book " Artisan Bread in five minutes a day". This is perfect for keeping the dough. It is shiny, clear and heavy duty. I also purchased the lid and it works like a charm. It is not airtight but fits snugly. I would Buy this again!

4.0 out of 5 stars Restaurant Grade Food Storage Containers, December 24, 2008
Product: Cambro Clear Round Food Storage Containers {assorted sizes}

I cook a lot, and I have a lot of friend and acquaintances in the food service industry, and as anyone who's ever had a problem with food "pests" (meal worms, ants, cockroaches, mice, etc.) will rapidly attest, proper food storage is very important.

Important features to look for:
------------------------------
Stackability
Carry handles
Lids with good seals & size commonality
Break Resistance
Impermeability (resistant to chewing, boring, and oxidation)
Tight fitting lids
Clear construction (content visibility)
Easily readable fill/capacity levels (esp from side)
Hot/Cold Temperature resistance.
Stain resistance.
Value.

The cambro clear round food storage containers I have so far seem to fit the bill on most of the above. I use them for dry goods (breakfast cereal, shaped pastas, assorted dhal/lentils, rice, beans, etc.), and most of them fit well into my cabinets. I like them.

My one nit (hence the 4 stars instead of 5) is that the rigid lids aren't fully air/water tight ... which makes these better suited for dry goods than wet, if tipping over is a possibility (for things like soups and sauces, consider either jars with screw caps, or deli tubs with flexible 'burpable' lids. That's one of the few drawbacks of rigid high impact PET is that lids made from that material dont seal quite as snugly as those made from flexible plastics. As such, oxidation may be a problem for anything stored in them in bulk quantity for longer than a few months, esp in conditions of variable temperature and humidity (which creates a 'bellows' effect, causing air to constantly move in and out of the contrainer). In such circumstances, I generally prefer to use containers than can form an air/waterproof seal (such as ones that can accept a universal vaccum lid, or the burpable pails already mentioned). However, for most dry applications, these containers are fine.

For home use, I suggest the 2L, 4L & 7.5L sizes, which share a common lid size, and will stack side by side, and vertically, in/on/under most standard size cabinets and countertops.

Recommended for most, but not all, uses.

5.0 out of 5 stars Storage Container, May 4, 2009

This storage container was purchased by me because I like to bake bread and it is perfect to place the dough in for rising purposes. I like to bake Artesian bread and the dough is stored in it in the refirgerator for several days allowing you to make small loaves for several days and it keeps it fresh. One batch doubled can turn into 12 little loaves.
It does come with a lid also but the lid is sold separately and should be stated clearly in your advertisment. This did cause me some confusion when I made my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars perfect for bread making, April 26, 2009
Light weight plastic container is excellent for bread dough storage. I did expect it to come with a lid which it doesn't. It is clear plastic with markings and fits easily in the frig. for storage of bulk dough.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works perfectly, June 25, 2009
I ordered this container and the lid for it to mix and store bread dough as described in the cookbook, Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day: The Discovery That Revolutionizes Home Baking. It works perfectly and the bread is easy to make and very delicious.
