Repeat reads & smiles,
By A Customer
This review is from: I Can (Baby Beginner Board Books) (Board book)
This is one of my 15 month old little boy's favorite books. He loves the simple words (I CAN starts the story and then there is one word on each page: jump, bend, etc.) and the sweet babies who look like him! Next to the word on each page, I wrote in the date when he did the same thing as the baby in the illustration: when he first waved, when he first ran, etc. It is a lovely way to keep a memory. He brings me the book at least once every day with a big smile on his face. Since it is a board book, it's quite durable, too.

Action Packed,

My 17 month old son loves this book. Each page lists a simple action, such as falling, crawling, running, that we all have fun acting out together. It's a fun way to boost his understanding of simple verbs.

Great First Book(s),
By
This review is from: I CAN (Board book)
Our son received the boxed set of four tiny board books including "I Can", "I Touch", "I Hear" and "I See" as a gift when he was born. These were the first books we ever read to him and we started when he was just a few months old. Being small board books, they were great for a first book because our son could hold them and even chew on them and really get interested in the idea of a book. He could hold one while we read another. Being simple picture books with a cute baby as the focus, the books seem to hold an infants attention and we had lots of opportunity for interaction. I talked a lot about what the baby was doing and feeling -- as well as the other objects on each page. When our son started standing and walking, he started imitated the actions in "I Can." At 23 months, he still picks these books up and goes through them by himself from time to time. The books have gotten so much use that they are falling apart! I'm online looking for the boxed set to give to friends with a newborn...

Entire Family Fun,
By
This review is from: I Can (Baby Beginner Board Books) (Board book)
My older daughters, aged 19 and 15 love to read this to their little brother aged 20 months. He goes through all of the activities and the girls laugh and giggle while he bends, jumbs, dances and stretches. A book that encourages easy and quick to read and encourages involvement. Some evenings I think those girls read it to him a dozen times!

Fun and simple enough for babies and toddlers,

My daughters found this fun when they were babies and toddlers, and I found it simple enough to keep the attention of such young children. It can be a fun activity book, with the children mimicing everything they see.

I guess I'm not smitten . . .,

I'm not as smitten with this book as some people seem to be. The illustrations are all of a baby boy doing various actions, with the one word verb on each page. The colors are light pastels, which feel pale and washed out. The boy, who appears to be caucasian, has a face with a line mouth and dots for eyes, which is not very interesting to me. The verbs illustrated include "fall" and "slide", which may be difficult for a toddler to do in their living room. (Or they may be fun, I guess it's been a while since I have been a toddler).I more impressed with another board book, "Watch Me Dance" by Andrea and Brian Pinkney. The book is about a girl showing her little brother how to dance. The text is a simple poem, with a dance-like rhythm. It also describes movements that a toddler can imitate. The colors are vibrant and the artwork is more beautiful. I like the family context of Watch Me Dance, because it is modeling an older sibling teaching a younger one. My baby is only 9 months old now, and he is too excited about crawing these days to take much interest in books. So, I'll have to see if he ends up liking "I Can" more than I do.

I found this at the library. We have so many books at home, and some just don't spark my sons interest. So after bringing this book home, along with a few others, my son was drawn to this book. The simplicity and the drawings were very easy for him to understand. He was around 19 months at the time when I purchased I Can... and we have not been disappointed. I'm now looking to add more to our collection.

Bought this book as a gift for a 18 month old. Wanted an item that was decently priced and had good reviews for a child that age. This book is has at most 3 words per page. I.E. "I can Jump", "I can Dance", "I can Run", etc There really isn't anything to it. One reading is enough and won't hold the attention of an 18 mth old. It's a one time use book.

We have always loved Helen Oxenbury's book, ever since my oldest child was a baby. The illustrations are simple, but they still leave lots of room to 'discuss' with a little one. Babies love looking at human faces, and this book definitely fits the bill! We also love the single word isolations.
I can't wait to give this book to my youngest son for Christmas, I know he'll love it as much as his older brother did!
