Mixed Results - Depends On Purpose For Use,
By
This review is from: Can-C Carnosine Eye Drops 10 ml Liquid (Health and Beauty)
First of all, for the skeptics, let me state I am just an ordinary Jane with no agenda, writing a real review of my experience. I chose to give this product 4 stars (which means "I like it" according to the pop-up when I placed my cursor on that star. 3 is "It's OK" and 5 is "I love it."). This is my subjective ratings, averaged, based on the following uses in my family.
Myself (4 stars) - I originally made a purchase of these drops to see if it might help my dog who was dx'd with juvenile cataracts in one eye at less than a year old. More on that next. OK, so being the animal lover I am, and since this product is tested safe for humans and dogs, I decided I'd put it in my eyes before putting it in my dog's eyes. I don't use them daily now, but I did in the beginning simply because I liked the way it soothed my eyes after wearing contacts all day. I have healthy eyes but a very strong corrective prescription. Sometime during the first week of use, I noticed a few things. The colors of nature seemed to be a little brighter, I could more easily see definition in the treetops, and I had a slight improvement in my night vision. When I questioned my doc at my next eye exam about the drops, wondering if I was just imagining these slight improvements, she commented that it's her opinion the drops can be genuinely helpful and recommended I keep using them. No, she didn't sell them to me, so no reason for her to fabricate a positive opinion. My young dog (3 stars) - I'm aware that these drops were tested on senile cataracts, but decided to try them anyway. Trying to cut my spending, I decided to use 2 drops in the eye with the cataract and 1 drop in the clear eye, rather than 4 daily in both. The animal eye specialist I take my dog to says she is not familiar with Can-C drops but doesn't think any kind of drops will help, but she seems more than happy to perform surgery at some point for me to the tune of $4,000 per eye (WHAT?!?!?!) At any rate, my dog has had three checkups, every 6 months from the time of dx, and there has been no progression of the cataract in his one eye, nor has their been improvement. However, given that I was told at the first appt that juvenile cataracts often progress rapidly, I think no progression for two years is a win. The doc thinks it's just luck, not the drops. No way to know, either way. The other eye, up until the last appt, had no cataract but has now developed a very small spot. So, as my grandfather would say, I've probably been being penny wise and pound foolish in not using the proper dosage in both eyes to begin with. We'll see what the next appt reveals, as I've now switched to 4 drops (2, 2x day) in both eyes as I should have been doing all along. I'll try to remember to pop back in a give a quick update in a few months. My elderly father (5 stars) - In 2009, he had cataract surgery in one eye. Last year, his doc commented he thought it was about time to do the other eye. I asked my father if he wanted to try what I was using for the dog and gave him a bottle. He, in turn, asked his doc if it would be OK and was told by the doc he felt it would be perfectly safe. He said he'd heard of the drops but never had a patient use them. My father ended up buy 6 boxes (not from this seller). I'm sorry I don't have the exact time frame (guessing it was a few months of 2 drops, 2 times a day). The bottom line is, my father had such a dramatic improvement that his doc said he would never consider doing surgery on him at this point. OK, so there you have it. Oh, and I should add, I tried the other brand Brite Eyes III ... those drops stung the living daylights outta my eyes. They were anything but soothing. I ended up tossing the open bottle and still have the second one unopened. I realize this might not be the case for everyone. There likely will be some who experience stinging with Can-C but not Brite Eyes.

I had cataract surgery in my right eye seven years ago and had planned to do my left eye a year later. But, having read about N-acetyl carnosine, I decided to try it first. Here I am, seven years later and my cataract has not progressed at all, according to my opthalmologist, and it is much lighter in color. It used to be dark yellow in strong sunlight and is now almost as white as my right eye. The cataract is still there, but I don't feel the need to remove it, as my sight is fine. I never stopped using the drops, but now I only use it twice a day, not four times.

Based on the directions results may take 6-9 months or more of 4 drops a day. After a year of being diagnosed with cataracts, I am seeing a major improvement. I just went to my optometrist yesterday and he said he didn't see any signs of cataracts. You may also want to increase your intake of vitamin d. I also supplement with billberry.

Best Drops Ever for My Eyes,
This review is from: Can-C Carnosine Eye Drops 10 ml Liquid (Health and Beauty)
I have used Can-C Drops for about 4 years and began by ordering them from England until Swanson's began to carry them. Between these drops and Vitamin D3, my eye doctor wanted to know what I was doing as my vision has improved so especially the macula and retina. I can now drive without glasses and also see to drive at night. These drops with the addition of 8000 IU of D3 keep my eyes moist & clear where before they were quite dry and my vision was increasingly fuzzy. To me Can-C drops are priceless, and at 72 years young I see only better vision ahead.

I didn't have the opportunity, or know about, this product when my cataracts formed. I had to have laser surgery, so I looked into that for my dog, not possible because of the breed of dog.
After extension research on cataracts on dogs, I found Can C. She was nearly blind, but after continued use, her cataracts have started "melting" like snow, as the internet description stated. Her cataracts had almost covered the colored area of her eye, and now I can see brown again & she is seeing some. The vet has even noticed an improvement in her vision, and said he will be doing some research on it himself. I don't know the medical terminology on all of this, but I do know that this is an amazing product, and it is definitely helping her, I have been doing at least 2 drops a day, and I will continue as long as it continues to work for her.

Can-C for Canines,
This review is from: Can-C Carnosine Eye Drops 10 ml Liquid (Health and Beauty)
I honestly was a bit skeptical but after reading all the reviews I will agree, these drops do work! I should probably clarify, don't expect a 100% return of sight but they do make a difference. Yes they are expensive as hell, but they are a ton cheaper than catarac surgery. I have a 16 year old Golden Retriever who has been blind in both eyes for a while before I tried these drops. Unfortunately it was too late to have much effect on his right eye, but his vision in his left has dramatically increased (relatively speaking of course). He no longer walks into trees or cars when I take him for a walk and he can maneuver his way around without having a set path. As I said, it is not like he is a young dog again. But his quality of life has definitely improved.
Whether these are for humans or not, I have done the reading and tried them myself on my own dog and they work. Again, I just wish that they were not as expensive as they are. Just ask yourself, is it worth it for you...This is the ONLY reason I did not give them 5 stars. And if someone knows of a less expensive alternative I'm open for suggestions.. I'm about out of my second bottle and am going to need to be ordering some soon.

Can-C,

This review is from: Can-C Carnosine Eye Drops 10 ml Liquid (Health and Beauty)
I was very excited to try Can-C and used it for five weeks. I did notice an improvement in my eys. I have dry eyes and it helped in that respect. After about three weeks I started getting constant head aches in my forehead region and also was very tired. I never nap but found myself napping every afternoon in order to stay awake. One day I forgot to take my drops and the next day noticed I didn't have any headache. I thought maybe the headaches where due to the eyedrops so stopped taking them. The next couple of days I noticed I wasn't tired anymore and did not need a nap to get through the day. I am so disappointed that I cannot take these drops. They really did help, but it's obvious I am allergic to them. I am a 78 year old female in very good health. My only medicine I take is Synthroid. I do take vitamins. My cataracts are minimul at this point so I was hoping to eliminate the need for cataract surgery in the near future.

I have been taking Can-C drops for 5 months. Once in a while my vision seems a little clearer but for the most part there is no change. I just ordered 4 more bottles and if no change then I will give up and maybe have the surgery.

For those of you that are skeptical, please read the following! I would recommend this product to anyone:
My husband and I were recently on the hunt for a female Boston Terrier so that our male Boston might have a companion. We decided together that taking an unwanted dog off the hands of someone on Craigslist was the route that we wanted to go and soon we were lead to a sweet looking picture of a three year old Boston female named Ruby! Her owner wanted $200 for her, and while that seemed a bit high, he reassured us that she was well worth it and had a champion blood line. So, my husband went to his "home" to check out this seemingly gorgeous dog. When my husband got to this man's "house", it looked abandoned and the man was nowhere to be found. After receiving a call from the man, my husband waited patiently with our own Boston Terrier until a neighbor came upon him and struck up a conversation about Boston Terriers. He told my husband, while pointing at the the abandoned looking home, that there was a female Boston Terrier that was left on the side yard with no shelter and had been there for months by herself. He further explained that the "owner's" of the home had been evicted and originally had left five Boston Terrier's there, the other four being the female's puppies, until each of the puppies had been sold off. With the encouragement of the kindly older man that had been the awful owner's neighbor (apparently he had been jumping the fence to feed our poor Ruby), my husband jumped the gate and took the dog. When he brought her home, I began to cry as I examined her. She was caked in urine and dirt, her fur was brittle and sun dried, she was slightly malnourished, and her right hand eye was completely glazed over by a cataract. To make a longer story short, my husband and I spent forever looking up options to help her poor eye without having to put her under the knife (it seemed a bit extreme for her condition) and found Can-C! I was skeptical at first, being that her eye seemed so far gone, but we ordered it anyway and have been using it along with regular eye drops (to keep her eye moist) and her eye is recovering! She now seems to be able to see in her once blind eye and seem a lot more happy! I can't thank the makers of this product enough! My heart was weeping for this sweet, abandoned dog and now she is happy, healthy, and living in the lap of luxury (my husband and I spoil our dogs haha! If you are skeptical of this product, give it a try before having drastic surgery performed, it's really changed our sweet dog's life! :] |
