We bought this book as a "cheap" gift when we were in Florida, but my kids have had a great time with it. My 3 and 4 year olds colored and completed the pictures and my 6 year old read it to them! All for less than the price of some coloring books.

I do not know how the 1998 reissue is setup, but the original version, which I recently bought, thanks to Amazon, is set up like an actual artist's sketchbook/portfolio, with large pages and the drawings only on one side of the page, with plenty of room to personalize each page. Ted Geisel, aka Dr. Seuss, called his creation, "a revolt against coloring books" and I agree. I don't think I've ever seen a "coloring book" like the Dr.'s - he starts a drawing and leaves a portion of the rest of the work to the imagination of the budding artist. I have no idea why Random House has let this one go out of print. I love it.

this book comes with the crayons glued to the front of the book so when you remove them you damage it. thats my only complaint. its kind of an instructional drawing book. you do draw in the book itself so its a one-time deal. if your kid likes to draw theyll love it. and they can say theyve illustrated a book!

I bought 2 of these books for my two Grandson's age 6 and 4. Although the 6 yr old handled and was better at the drawing they both enjoyed the books a lot. Definitely great for a rainy afternoon at nana's!,

It was just what the description stated. I purchased this book for my 5 year old grandson. He loved reading it and then drawing his part to complete each page. It was definitely a success!

each page is better than I expected! I got this because my daughters love the books, but it surpassed my expectations. I am currently waiting on my next order ( i got two more ) for my younger children, I will be saving them till they are old enough to do it. When the child is done completing the pages, it actually reads like a classic dr. suess book. It is wonderful!! a must have for all parents!!!

Hi all reading this! I have been trying to get this book for several years. I emailed Random HOuse last week and they got back to me saying the new edition will be available in 2011. Just sharing!

I did not like how the crayons are glued to the front cover and when you remove them, the glue rips the cover so it no longer has a nice cover.
