Capitol Records released the original Broadway cast recording of CAN-CAN (Can-Can (1953 Original Broadway Cast) but they also issued the movie soundtrack, mainly because Frank Sinatra was one of their artists.

The movie retains only 8 of the show' 15 songs, augmenting the program with other Porter songs ("You Do Something to me", "Let's Do It" and "Just One of Those Things.") Sinatra is in excellent voice here and his slowed down and heartfelt rendition of "It's All Right With Me" is the definitive version of the song. He just doesn't sound terribly French, especially when his crass American accent crosses with Chevalier's authentic item. MacLaine sounds even less at home as the dance hall hostess, but Louis Jordan adds a touch of class and the orchestrations by Nelson Riddle are top drawer.

When Capitol released the LP, whoever compiled the tracks had them ridiculously out of order. Not only that, if you put them in the proper order the program flows beautifully from one track to the next.

The Sinatra/Chevalier track of "I Love Paris" did not make the final release of the film.

Perhaps Capitol (or DRG) will re-release this one with the songs in the correct order.

First of all the CD arrived in good condition. It is from the Twenty Century Fox Motion Picture Can Can starring Frank Sinatra, Shirley MacLaine, etc. This is one of the broadway musicals that I have liked for years, and owned on vinyl, and tape as well. I recommend it for you, if you like similar musicals.
