5.0 out of 5 stars It all comes together, March 8, 2008

This review is from: We Can Get Together (Audio CD)
Merging his terrific blues guitar playing and soulful voice Sean Costello has made a complete album worthy of his prodigious talents. His previous self titled disk was heavy on the soul vibe but pushed his guitar chops to the side. This time his superb playing is in the forefront. His soulful vocals have never sounded better. Modern blues at it finest. The sky is the limit for this immense talent.

4/16/08: Devastating news about Sean's passing. Godspeed young man. You will be truly missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars RICK "SHAQ" GOLDSTEIN SAYS: "I HAVE SEEN THE FUTURE OF "ELECTRIC-BLUES"... AND ITS NAME IS SEAN COSTELLO!", March 9, 2008

This review is from: We Can Get Together (Audio CD)

I have probably spent half of my free time the past two decades researching and looking for new electric blues performers. With this CD I feel like I have struck oil and found gold! Sean Costello was born in Philadelphia in 1979 and moved to Atlanta when he was nine. By the time he was seventeen he was playing with Susan Tedeschi, and performed on her GOLD-CERTIFIED debut CD "JUST WON'T BURN". Since that time Sean has jammed with such blues legends as B.B. King, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Pinetop Perkins and Bo Diddley among others.

This CD release entitled "WE CAN GET TOGETHER" highlights what should be the seminal electric blues breakthrough for this twenty-eight year old, who most certainly will be catapulted to the upper echelons in this genre of music based on the talents he showcases here. Sean has a voice that can be beautiful, growling and gritty... and still hit the high notes and low notes... all in the same song... let alone on the same CD. Every song on this CD is a winner, but to crystallize one or two is almost like being asked to pick out your favorite child. Song #6 "HOW IN THE DEVIL" is an absolute rocking "ROADHOUSE BLUES" classic, that could probably be used in any movie's soundtrack that includes a scene in a juke joint, bar, saloon, or dance hall. Song#8 "GOING HOME" includes some beautiful gospel inspired sound, and Sean's voice almost sounds like Louie Armstrong.

Another thing that adds to my admiration of Sean's work is the fact that he wrote nine of the eleven songs. The only advice, or actually a respectful request, would be for Sean to add longer guitar riffs on his next CD. This young man has the future of the "ELECTRIC BLUES" world at his fingertips, and it's almost frightening what may lie ahead!

4/16/08 I have just found out that Sean passed away last night. I am deeply saddened for his surviving family first and foremost and saddened also for myself and the blues loving public that Sean has left behind. I got two rolling waves of chills and goose bumps through my body and soul; the first from the original shock .... and the second realizing the eery impact of the title I had put on my original review of this CD on March 9, 2008!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Overall Modern Blues Musician, February 21, 2008
By
This review is from: We Can Get Together (Audio CD)
This is the best release yet of Sean, who MOJO magazine calls an "undersung and brilliant guitar player." Add to his guitar skills, his unique and soulful voice and mix it with some of the best musicians in the business, and you have a blues album that cannot be pigeonholed and one that represents the best of today's artists. What's even better about Sean is that he is even better live!! Try this CD you will like it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars R.I.P. Sean Costello =(, May 4, 2009
This review is from: We Can Get Together (Audio CD)
Just wanted to make a comment.

If I have to choose THE most underrated guitarist I've ever heard (and I've heard a lot), Sean would be the choice. No doubt.

He was so original, his voice was powerful and soulful, his guitar playing, raw and fresh.

Definetely Sean will be missed by everyone in this world who ever listened the music he created.

5.0 out of 5 stars What could have been?, April 27, 2009

It's a bit difficult to review Sean Costello's last CD without spending more time thinking about what could have been had he not left us so prematurely. I think that with each of his albums he has come closer and closer to finding his own corner in the world of music. And in that sence, this is his best album yet. His singing is better than ever, while his brilliant guitar skills unfortunately takes a bit of a back seat. Don't get me wrong, he has some powerful riffs here and there in his own innovative style. Not sure however how to describe this style. Blues with a blend of soul? Or vice versa? Don't know, but it's outstanding music to my ears. Just wished we would all have had the chance to see more from SC. I would have given this CD 4.5 stars, because I think he had one better coming. But like I said, we unfortunately won't see it. So 5 stars it is. A must buy!!
God Bless you Sean Costello for sharing your talents with us! May you indeed be living with God!

5.0 out of 5 stars five stars for sure!, February 12, 2009
This review is from: We Can Get Together (Audio CD)
This music is truely for the blues lover's ears..............I have loved the blues since I was s child (I am now a young 58) and despite having a library of blues by artists, this one by far is one of the best. I knew I had struck gold with Kenny Wayne Shepard and Johnny Lang, but Sean is cream cheese frosting on their cake. That is not to say that the many others are not full of talent to share, but Sean takes great to another level. I was saddened to hear of his untimely and tragic death, however where this young man now resides gets the luxury of enjoying him 24/7.............lucky folks they are. In my next life my hope is to return only to live next door to this gifted young artist. Sean, you are missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sean Costello was my favorite, and this is his best, December 19, 2008
This review is from: We Can Get Together (Audio CD)
I first heard Sean in a small club in Savannah at about age 20 or 21. I last saw him a couple of weeks before his death, and a few times in between whenever I was nearby where he was playing. Every one of his CDs was terrific, and he topped them all with this latest and last one.

Others who know more about music than I ever will said he was "the future of the blues", a magnificent talent. I feel sorry for anyone who never had the chance to see him perform. He truly "became" the music he was playing, yet not in a "showy" way --- instead the kind of way that makes me feel warm inside when in the presence of someone doing exactly what he should be doing and doing it sublimely well.

Get ALL of his CD's, but make sure you get THIS one. It will always be my favorite.

Just by chance and only today I heard that Sean is not with us anymore. I am so surprised and shocked that I am almost speechless. I just wanted to express my deep sorry for such tragic event. Sean was a great artist, a fantastic blues guitarist and blues singer, he was simply a natural talent, one of my favourite musicians ever. I just wanted to thank you very much Sean for all the emotions and the feelings that your music has always made me feel. May you rest in peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Must have" for Blues fans. Everyone else for that matter, July 7, 2008
This review is from: We Can Get Together (Audio CD)
Seans last was his best, and gets my vote for CD of the year. Been in constant play at home and in my car for months. Noone I know who has heard this gave it anything less than 5 stars. His passing is tragic. The greatest loss for blues fans since Stevie left us. Sean was that good. He was a monster live. 3 of the best shows I've ever seen. There is a huge hole in my annual concert schedule now, noone will be able to fill it. If any family members or friends of his are reading this , my deepest sympathies go out to you. I had the pleasure of talking with him before a show last year. Just a great , unassuming, no pretense, regular guy with an extraordinary gift. He will be missed by everyone who ever heard him.
