5.0 out of 5 stars Really a fun book!
This is a really fun book! It answers some questions I've always wanted to ask (but who could I ask?) and a lot more that I never would have thought of asking. I have a particular interest in animals, and this book devotes a whole section to them. (Do dogs really age seven years for each human year?) The book is attractively designed, with many drawings interspersed...

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting! But, in book form, explanations should have been more detailed...
The title is titillating: Can a Guy Get Pregnant?: Scientific Answers to Everyday (and Not-So-Everyday) Questions. These are questions that come up, very occasionally, in casual conversations, on guessing game shows, or in Trivia Pursuit. This is easy to pick up, read various questions, and save more for tomorrow! It's the kind of book anyone would enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Seeing The World In New Ways, December 3, 2005
This book is filled with short presentations of the most interesting ideas that I have never considered before. Questioning what can be done in the world and un-thought of possibilities had me turning every page in the quest for new ways of looking at the world.

Truth really is stranger than fiction! This book would be enjoyed by teens to older adults.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard to put this book down, December 2, 2005

This book is full of some really fascinating stuff, put together in a format that is fun and easy to read. I found it impossible to stop at just one question; you gotta keep reading!!! Can a body live without a head? Check out the answer(with the bizarre tale of "Miracle Mike") for yourself; you won't be disappointed! Far from dry reading, this book is fun for ages 13 and up(my teenage kids actually READ this book!)and makes a great gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, funny, offbeat yet scientific..., December 21, 2005
After reading some of the reviews I went out and bought the book. I read through about half of it until my teenage daughter spotted it and monopolized it. It's full of answers to some questions I was always curious about, some I'd never thought of, and either confirmed or debunked a number of urban legends. A fast, fun read.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting! But, in book form, explanations should have been more detailed..., December 5, 2010

The title is titillating: Can a Guy Get Pregnant?: Scientific Answers to Everyday (and Not-So-Everyday) Questions. These are questions that come up, very occasionally, in casual conversations, on guessing game shows, or in Trivia Pursuit. Let's say you are watching a rerun of the hit TV series, MASH, and you are watching the episode where Klinger is trying to convince people that he is crazy because he decides to eat an entire jeep. Can human stomach acid dissolve an automobile? Just turn to page 51 in this book, and there you have your answer! Well, sort of. Stomach acid is strong, and we know a lot about the fate of swallowed metallic coins.

But the question was, "Can human stomach acid dissolve an automobile?" The answer really should be that some parts could be dissolved, and others couldn't (e.g., tires), and you'd probably die of old age, stomach ulcers, or some type of poisoning before another observer would even notice that parts of the car had been removed.

And that's the problem with this book. The answers to many questions are irritatingly shallow.

However, there are other questions that can be answered more completely in a short paragraph. For example, "Would a penny tossed off the Empire State Building bore through a human skull?" The physics here aren't that complicated (answer... no).

My favorite? "Would a guillotined head feel itself hit the ground?" Apparently, in 1905, a doctor watched a convicted murder get his head lopped off. A few seconds later, the doctor shouted out the man's name. "The [eye]lids lifted, and Languille's 'undeniably living eyes' fixed on the doctor, after which they closed again. Moments later he called out again, fetching another look by Languille. But a third call went unheeded" (p. 113). The whole thing lasted 25-30 seconds.

Is this a trivial pursuit question?

5.0 out of 5 stars Brain treats, December 24, 2005
If from time to time, you yearn for chocolate, you can understand the delights of this book. The book is a splendid mixture of science and fact mixed with humor and insights. One of the best ways to spice up life is to keep asking questions...the more weird the question, the more interesting the answers. The authors of this book are truly advocates of the "weird and wonderful", and I do hope they keep on asking so that I keep on learning. A real "thumbs-up " book that is fun to read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Answers, November 9, 2007

This review is from: Can a Guy Get Pregnant? : Scientific Answers to Everyday (and Not-So-Everyday) Questions (Hardcover)
There's a fair few of these sorts of books out there these days, a few are good but most are pretty average. Can a Guy Get Pregnant although not the best book in this genre is still one of the good ones!

In Can a Guy Get Pregnant the authors answer heaps of weird questions you've probably wondered yourself and if you haven't you definitely will once someone else asks them. Something that differentiates this book from its competitors is that the authors have also drawn little rough drawings beside most questions further lightening the tone of the book but too be honest probably also padding it out a little. The other thing that differentiates this book is the psychology and philosophy chapter Part 2 Love. I would have preferred more of the other type questions myself but there's still enough of them to make this a great book.

Some of the questions asked and answered inside include -
Can people commit crimes in their sleep?
Are there people who don't have flatulent moments?
Can dreams help you stop smoking or lose weight?
Can a guy pregnant? (Title question of the book)
Can a body live without a head?
Can you drink your own urine if you have to?
Why is it so hard to talk to someone your attracted to?
Can a person die laughing?
Will a guillotined head feel itself hit the ground?
Can a body live without a head?
Can humans and chimps interbreed?
When lightning strikes water, do fish die?
Does a human year equal 7 dog years?
Will your pets eat your corpse if you die alone with them?
