About the Author

Lisa Medford and Jeanne Gulbranson are the co-authors of I Can Hear the Applause. Lisa's qualifications to provide a full and accurate life story are (certainly) that she lived it! Lisa told her stories...and Jeanne wrote them. Jeanne Gulbranson has previously written two books on the subjects of building leadership and followership skills. The books, available on www.amazon.com, are Be the Horse or the Jockey and Pink Leadership. Each of Gulbranson's books received the Finalist Award from the 2009 Next Generation Indie Book Awards. More About the Author

About four years ago, I believed that I had retired from the corporate work to become a full-time writer of books, short stories, and essays. For awhile, I wanted to become the next O. Henry. Then I found out that he died poor, so that didn't sound like a great business model. Several other things interfered with my retirement plan--primarily work. (It's so difficult to pass on exciting, challenging jobs that come with interesting paychecks.)

So, in addition to writing, I've been working as a business strategy consultant providing support to small and large companies in strategic visioning, process re-design, and change management initiatives. Sounds pretty boring? Yes, it would be, if that's all I did. But consistent with my eclectic interests, I've also continued to write--eclectically.

At the request of my new business-owner clients, I recently published "Start Smart: Business-Building Lessons from a Serial Entrepreneur", which is available as an e-book on Kindle. I'm delighted with the response I've received from many up-and-coming entrepreneurs! I'm a "wealth voyeur." If I can't make a fortune for me, I do like helping and watching others do it!

Six years ago, I authored two award-winning books on the subject of leadership development: "Be the Horse or the Jockey: 110 Tips and Techniques for Followers...and Leaders" and "Pink Leadership: 15 Life Lessons for Women Leaders." Both books are enjoying long lives, and are included in several leadership curricula for colleges and at least one, progressive high school Honors program (that I know about.)

Four years ago, I co-authored a third book with Lisa Medford, who was the first nude showgirl in Vegas in 1957 and who is the subject of: "I Can Hear the Applause: Adult Language...Some Nudity." (This book has nothing to do with leadership development.) We recently signed an Authors Option Agreement with a theatrical writer who is preparing a stage production based on the book! (I've got my eye on a few dresses for the Tony Awards ceremony.)

My latest literary offering is a collection of my short-stories: "Heart-to-Heart and Other Tales of Love and Laughter." Seven of the 13 stories in the e-book were previously-published and five received prizes in literary competitions. (That means someone actually paid for this. What a novel concept!)

Other than all that--I'm just grateful that the sun shines (almost) all the time in Vegas, my dog Patches loves me, and my wonderful husband, Bill makes me laugh every day. Doesn't get any better than that!

I picked up this book on a recommendation and, while I expected to appreciate it, I was surprised by how much I liked it! I'm a sucker for strong women, glamor and gossip. It's a casual read-- very much like reading a celebrity blog that was compiled into a book and written from a wiser, less in-the-moment perspective. But the sass, clarity of choice, and humor is still very much there. Jeanne Gulbranson did a great job of sorting the stories in a easy-to-read, but not boringly linear tale. And Lisa Medford seems to have retained her point-blank perspective and sense of adventure. All of that just to say, it was fun as more biographies should be! :)

I learned of Lisa' book from a high school friend (when attending our 60 year high school reunion) who is mentioned in the index. Jackie Flink. I immediately ordered it from Amazon.
Enjoyed the realistic view of Las Vegas and Hollywood and Lisa's humor throughout. She is one heck of a "survivor" and like Jackie, who was a gorgeous showgirl herself, stated Lisa remains a true, loyal and generous friend.

Having worked in Las Vegas myself I found this book to be extremely accurate. It was a very fast read. Lisa really brought back the feeling of the "Old Las Vegas" of the 50's and 60's. The showgirl was a very special entertainer then and Lisa seemed to be right in the middle of the whole thing. To Lisa the author I would say "nice job". To Lisa the ex showgirl I would say "keep listening".

It's a Must Read for anyone over 40 and a Should Read for anyone under 40. For those of us who visited Las Vegas in the wonderful exciting days of the Rat Pack and Elvis and watched brilliant performers in the lounges, show girl extravaganzas and knew that "Bugsy" was a well known name in Vegas, this book will entertain you to no end. The true "I've lived it" way of Lisa Medford's narrative make you smile and laugh and shake your head saying "OMG and No Way" as you continue through her journey as show girl and knowing Ricky Nelson and being Carey Grant's girl and countless other escapades that she's involved in. Lisa is one of a kind. Be ready for some adult language (the cover of the book doesn't lie) which gives her descriptions color and fun. This is a great fast and easy read. A perfect book if you're traveling or at the beach or just want something fun and upbeat. You'll be entertained from Page 1 on, guaranteed. This is a nice idea for a gift for a friend who liked the glamorous days of Las Vegas and would be interested in some real scoop of what went on behind the scenes of performing show girls. This book also follows Lisa in Hollywood and other parts of the world, so it's not just show girl talk. Happy Reading!

Totally enjoyable read. I couldn't put the book down! Some fascinating information about the behind-the-scenes life in the Big Rooms.

I really liked the fact that you could read this book without squinting - good clean type, very readable.

I'd recommend this to anyone ... When this book is made into a movie, it'll probably get an R rating - this book isn't for youngsters, but if you're an oldster who enjoyed the shows in Las Vegas back in the day ... you won't put this down.
