I look forward to reading her next book.

The characters in the book were believable and most of us can associate ourselves with these characters, whether they were like us or we know someone who is like them.

I laughed out loud then cried until I fogged up my reading glasses. I live on the outskirts of Christianity so can relate to Ellen but this is not a book about religion. This book is irreverent and funny, smart and touching. You've met these characters and might have grown up with them. I just sent an email to my friends to encourage them to read this book.

I loved this book. I didn't know exactly what to expect and I was pleasantly surprised. I think we can all relate to Ellen in one way or another. This book was very well written, descriptive and I felt like I was watching it on the big screen as I was reading it. I read it in 4 days and it would have been sooner if I didn't have 3 kids to take care of.
Don't miss this one!!

CAN I GET AN AMEN is funny, frank, fresh, and totally unexpected. The characters will live in your heart long after you turn the last page. If you were raised in a crazy family, went to Vacation Bible School, or had any kind of religious upbringing that sometimes made you cringe, you will love this book. But even more importantly, Ellen's growth as a character is nuanced and keenly observed. The romantic elements are great, too. In short, this is a totally gripping book, that will make you laugh and cry. If you are looking for the ultimate summer read that is both intelligent and entertaining, look no further.

I SO enjoyed Can I Get An Amen. It's wickedly funny, a little dark, and by the end I was unutterably moved. It's very cinematic, and seems destined to be adapted into a movie or TV show. A perfect summer / beach read. Do not miss this fantastic debut...

This book was so funny, witty and candid - I couldn't put it down! While I was laughing out loud and shaking my head, it was also thought provoking and relatable.

You definitely need to have a good heart full of sense of humor to read this book.

Ellen's life falls apart in a matter of what feels like mere minutes - her husband wants a divorce, she loses her job and has to move back home to live with her overbearing Christian parents.
Ellen goes through some entertaining and sometimes scary ups and downs while trying to figure out who she is and what she wants to do.
And then she meets Mark - a handsome mysterious stranger who saves her one night and left quite an impression on her.

Will she find get her answer?

Totally unpredictable, it was such an enjoyable read!
It is definitely worth the quick read to find out!

I was sad to finish this book. The characters had become friends (and a few enemies). I can't believe this is the author's first book. What a talented writer !!!! I look forward to her next book. I'm a New Yorker, but I have to laugh at the perfect representation of those great Jersey girls!

After reading one of Sarah Healy's pieces in the New York Times last year, I swiftly logged in to Amazon and pre-ordered my copy of this book. I wasn't completely aware of the plot but after reading the first page I couldn't put it down and read it over the course of a weekend. Her writing style is easy to read and relatable, and even if you didn't have a crazy upbringing or family life, the characters, personalities and situations within this book will seem eerily familiar. The plot was engaging and I felt as though part of me was traveling along in Ellen's pocket as I turned each page.
A definite must-read and a fantastic debut for this young author. I can't wait to read her next book!
