Book Description

January 1996
This book details the life of triathlete Brad Kearns, from his beginnings in the sport of triathlon, to life on the pro circuit, competing all over the globe against the other top triathletes of the world. Kearns offers a unique inside look at the challenges and rewards of succeeding in this relatively young, but fast-growing sport -- where many professional competitors struggle to make ends meet, while dedicating their lives to the arduous training regime and disciplined lifestyle required for success. This self-effacing account of Kearns's athletic journey is laced with hilarious tales of mischief and high-risk adventure, in a sport where the unique, close-knit fraternity of athletes are cutthroat in competition, yet 'cut-loose' off the race course.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Besides his talent as an athlete, Brad Kearns is a helluva story teller. If you like endurance sports, you'll love this book. -- Bob Babbitt, Competitor Magazine, 1996

From the Publisher

Triathlete of the Decade Mark Allen describes this book very well: "This book is a refreshing departure from the common 'how to' books in sports. Brad goes beyond the race results and workout miles to provide an intimate look at the lifestyle of a professional athlete. I highly recommend this book from one of the most colorful personalities in sports today."

Ironman Hall of Famer, Scott Tinley also does a good job: "He does a wonderful job of depicting the sometimes exotic and sometimes neurotic lifestyle of a professional endurance athlete. He shares many of his memories, sometimes hilarious and sometimes deeply revealing, always interesting. I'd have read this book even if I didn't know a thing about triathlons."

More About the Author

My interesting personal attributes are too numerous and complex to mention in this small corner. Plus there are too many "toot their own horners". Especially with the internet, it's hard to separate fiction from fact. Everyone's an expert, even if they lack tact.

5.0 out of 5 stars The most entertaining triathlon book EVER written, May 18, 1998

This review is from: Can You Make a Living Doing That?: The True-Life Adventures of a Professional Triathlete (Paperback)
In all the triathlon books and magazines out there, there is very little insight or perspective about what it is like to be a pro triathlete. It also had some interesting and very funny insights about entering the corporate world out of college and wondering if that was what life was all about. I'm sure many people can relate to that, triathletes or not.

The book came in the mail from Amazon at 4 p.m. and I read straight through until 12:45 a.m., laughing the whole time. If you don't like this book you must be an "A.B." - get the book to find out what that means!

As a former teammate of Brads, I enjoyed reading of his antics and career moves in the sport. He writes well and conveys his message nicely. I'm looking forward to the sequel. Keep up the good work Brad!
