Is this an anti-Hillary or pro-Rudy treatise?,

Can She Be Stopped?: Hillary Clinton Will Be the Next President of the United States Unless . . .
Who will read this book?: 1) People who despise Hillary Clinton and what she stands for, 2) activists who despise Democrats, 3) Republicans who are looking for a victory in 2008, and 4) Democrats who want to understand what the fuss is about. Jane and Joe public will NOT read this book. That is not a problem, because this book really is a recipe for defeating not only Hillary Clinton in 2008 but defeating her ideas. It is meant to be read by political strategists, and perhaps secondarily by those who donate funds to political campaigns. For a number of reasons, author John Podhoretz thinks that defeating Hillary is a good idea. Half the book explains why. John Podhoretz also recognizes that Hillary Clinton is a powerful and viable candidate for the position of President of the United States. He doesn't find this an attractive possibility, and thus presents his list of 10 ways Hillary can be defeated: 1. Smoke her out... she is neither a centrist nor a moderate. "... A transparent Hillary is probably an unelectable Hillary." Note: isn't this true for all candidates? 2. Make her vote... get her to cast ideological votes. 3. Make her criticize tax cuts. 4. Talk up free trade (like NAFTA and CAFTA). "The public likes free trade. Democratic interest groups don't. There's a canyon there. Toss her into it." 5. Talk a lot about health care. Note: Look at what potential Podhoretz candidate Mitt Romney is saying and doing here. Perhaps Podhoretz will rethink this. 6. Suggest a pullout from the UN. 7. Fight the culture war, but with delicacy (gay marriage, stem cell research). 8. Run a reform campaign. Note: And this separates the parties how? 9. Go outside Washington for a candidate. 10. Nominate Rudy (Giulianni). Note: oh, is this an anti-Hillary or pro-Rudy treatise? John Podhoretz concludes by stating "Okay. I've done my bit. Now get to work." As I said, this book is his proposal, plan, strategy, and his recipe for detracting from a Democrat candidate, and promoting a Republican one. What it is missing is an analysis of alternatives that differ from his view, and a similar analysis of his favorite candidates. This book will make some people squirm, some sing Podhoretz's praises, and others wonder if Podhoretz is positioning himself for an election year job. Thank goodness a presidential election comes along just once every four years!

Could He Be More Wrong?,
By
This review is from: Can She Be Stopped?: Hillary Clinton Will Be the Next President of the United States Unless . . . (Hardcover)
Wow, I came across this in a used book store over the weekend, and had a chance to evaluate John's hypothesis.
He pretty much got the entire 2008 race wrong. First, John overestimated Hillary's strengths, engaging in classic "Clinton panic." Then he underestimated Obama's strength as a campaigner. Finally, he got Rudy badly, horribly, embarrassingly wrong. Has John come clean on how he got things all messed up?

"Misunderestimating" Hillary Clinton,
By
This review is from: Can She Be Stopped?: Hillary Clinton Will Be the Next President of the United States Unless . . . (Hardcover)
If "Bush Country" demonstrated that George W. Bush came to power as a result of being "misunderestimated" by his opposition, "Can She Be Stopped?" argues that Hillary Clinton will use the tactic in 2008. Whether one likes her or not, it must be admitted that Hillary is the Queen of Coyness -- with Bill playing right along in the game. How many interviews with Bill have we seen in the past few weeks, in which he pretends not to know whether Hillary is running in 2008? Make no mistake, Hillary is running and she will be a force to be reckoned with, as John Podhoretz reminds us time and again.
Moreover, Podhoretz insists that in addition to being coy, Hillary will try to slide into office as a "stealth" candidate, overcoming her high "negatives" with the hope that the MSM won't press her to state her positions on major issues. Thus, Podhoretz counts down 10 strategies that Republicans can use to pin her down on major positions in the coming months before the mid-term elections, upon which the real 2008 campaign will begin. While many will discount Podhoretz's warnings as part of a Republican scare campaign against Hillary and the chaos she will supposedly wrought once in office, it remains to be seen whether his predictions will be right. But, then, it will be too late. In this book, Podhoretz, who, it seems to me, is probably one of best-educated writers on current events, keeps a light-hearted tone throughout the book, just as he did in "Bush Country." This book never bogs down. Not everyone will like his conclusion, however, that Rudy is poised to be the Dragon-Slayer. But, that too, may be an eventuality we will need to prepare for.

Great, but frightening information about our former first lady,

This review is from: Can She Be Stopped?: Hillary Clinton Will Be the Next President of the United States Unless... (Paperback)
I have gotten a lot of good information from this book. It is frightening to see what Hilary has set out to do. She is determined to be president no matter the costs. I believe if she reaches the White House(and please God, no) she will be a little Caesar. I read the newspaper articles at the time she and her husband left the white house and how they trashed it and took items that were not supposed to leave the White House. She has no regard for the good of the country, only what she can get. I believe she is capable of getting to her goal no matter what she has to do or who she has to step on.

Preaching to the Right Wing Choir Sheds Little Light on 2008,
By Pierce Amory "Amory" (Wainscott, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Can She Be Stopped?: Hillary Clinton Will Be the Next President of the United States Unless . . . (Hardcover)
This book looked good at first glance - a treatise on the plausibility of Hillary Clinton being elected President in 2008 and how the Republicans can stop her. And the banner "Author of the New York Times bestseller Bush Country" on the cover seems to confer additional gravitas.
The table of contents seems to promise an objective analysis organized into sections like "Part I: Why, in spite of everything, Hillary can be elected President" with five supporting chapters and `Part III: "Stop Hillary: A Ten Point Plan." But if you're not a devoted reader of the New York Post or viewer of Fox News, ten minutes inside this book will have you wondering why you bought it. This book is built on a thin veneer of rationality. One need read just a few pages to see that Podheretz's thesis is constructed on the quicksand of classic right wing paranoia. The author clearly addresses his intended audience on page two when he states, "You can forestall and prevent the most frightening and disastrous outcome of" Election Day 2008. He exhorts his reader to "ensure that this nation will be safe and secure and economically viable" by stopping Hillary from being elected. Chapter I is entitled "Yes, She Has `High Negatives' - And They Might Even Help Her" seems promising, but the author goes on such a rant about her high negatives, that he undermines his thesis. Podheretz is a man seemingly consumed with hate or one who lives in a right wing bubble. He repeatedly trashes Hillary for her original sin which was, to declare that she wasn't "standing by my man, like Tammy Wynette" when the Gennifer Flowers controversy threatened to derail her husband's 1992 presidential campaign. Never mind that she actually did stand by him. And to hear Podheretz tell it, Bill Clinton nearly destroyed the US economy by balancing the budget in the late 1990s. And "I submit that [Hillary] the senator is a Trojan Horse and the real Hillary is inside waiting to burst through and alter the course set by George Bush." Yet the author offers no evidence of the truth of this Trojan Horse thesis. Nor does he acknowledge that most Presidents must lean toward the center to remain politically viable. Podheretz actually believes (or wants us to believe he believes) that Bush's disastrous foreign policy with Iraq as its centerpiece has made us safer and more secure and that Bush's economic policies have strengthened the economy, etc. or so he says. If you enjoy the loopy, attack mode logic of Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly (or if you just want to get inside their heads for a few hours) you may enjoy this book. Ann Coulter fans will love this book. But if you're looking for a serious analysis of the 2008 presidential campaigns and election, I suggest you look elsewhere.

Hillary just announced she was in the race til the end - no prisoners. Obama can continue to run at his own peril and the peril of the Democratic party, or he can join her and be the vice-president - a sure winning ticket.
Was this event foretold seventy years ago? Is it a part of a greater plan known by Almighty God? Christianity is rooted in OT prophecy, going all the way back to the book of Genesis (3:15) where God says to the serpent (an upright being before it was cursed), "And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel." NKJV God prophesies that seed, a descendent of Adam/Eve would eventually arise to once and for all "bruise" or crush the head of the serpent (who represented evil). So any questions, really should be ones that address to some extent prophecy. Not generic or vague prophecy either - that is what makes the Bible and the life of Jesus Christ so unique - the many, many detailed & specific prophecies that were given and then fulfilled. God still works that way today. Contemporarily a man was called by God to be a prophet to forerun the second coming of Christ, and to warn the world about coming destruction.[...] I had a friend with mad mathematical skills compute the numerical odds of these prophecies coming to pass, and here are a few of the outcomes: to have four of the seven be fulfilled, the odds are 1:1,000,000. Five of seven? 1:8,000,00 - for all seven to come to pass? 1:1,000,000,000 - that's right, one in one billion. That would be like building a warehouse 2 miles by four miles - eight square miles and within that warehouse would be shelf upon shelf of Bibles, with ONLY one that was say highlighted with the passage John 3:16. The odds of a person going into that warehouse and finding that one Bible is one in one billion. Guess what? five have come to pass exactly, and the sixth one appears ready to take the stage - it pertains to a woman raising up in America that would be president and possibly a dictator - this back in 1933! Could Hillary Clinton be this president/dictator?? That would leave but one prophecy - the destruction of America. Could it be?? Now there is a question for Christians :) America, You Will Be Destroyed !: Thus Saith The Lord - and Other Amazing Prophecies

Hillary Clinton Will Destroy The World! Unless...,
By
This review is from: Can She Be Stopped?: Hillary Clinton Will Be the Next President of the United States Unless . . . (Hardcover)
Unless John Podhoretz can stop her. Second-generation conservative hack John Podhoretz is dutifully making the rounds of all the wingnut talk radio shows and the cable news shows flogging his new book.
Podwhoretz's ten-point plan for stopping Hillary includes this bullet point: "How to expose the real, ultraliberal Hillary" In her six years in the Senate, what has Hillary done that could come close to earning the ultraliberal tag? Hillary Clinton has not done anything in her senatorial term that is particularly liberal, let alone ultraliberal. She voted to authorize Bush's invasion of Iraq, has voted to continue funding the war and has repeatedly said that we should not withdraw our troops. She has not authored or co-sponsored even one piece of legislation that could be called liberal and has never so much as stood up on the Senate floor advocating the creation of a new social program of any kind, liberal or otherwise. The one piece of legislation she co-sponsored would make flag burning a crime. Very liberal, that. The fact of the matter is that Podhoretz doesn't care what Hillary's politics are. She is a demon figure to the reflexive rightists and Republicans because she has the opposite party affiliation and is a celebrity with the popularity and campaign chest (ahem) that could conceivably get her into the White House. Hillary Clinton could be a member of the KKK and the right would still demonize her as long as they think she poses a genuine threat to Republican power. Conversely, she could be a screaming communist and go way beyond the ultraliberal tag and the right wouldn't care if she was just an obscure, backbench senator with no chance at the presidency. Podhoretz's track record as a political prognosticator can be guaged from his paen to President Bush, whose title and premise have already been proven wrong.

Hillary Clinton is Unlikely to Become our Next President---but I Could be Wrong,

This review is from: Can She Be Stopped?: Hillary Clinton Will Be the Next President of the United States Unless . . . (Hardcover)
It is highly unlikely that Hillary Clinton will be a viable presidential candidate in 2008. If nothing else, she must have the overwhelming support of the MSM. The election will not take place for roughly another 2 and 1/2 years, a virtual eternity. The major media outlets are rapidly losing market share and influence. How useful will they be to her on the day of the election? Senator Clinton is also despised by the Daily Kos crowd which will not allow her to pragmatically gravitate to more moderate positions concerning Iraq and economic matters. Aren't the Daily Kos and his buddies radical leftists? Whatever, they are now the "mainstream" of the Democratic Party. These left-wingers possess the ultimate veto power over that party's next presidential nominee. And there is no way possible for one to reconcile the economic views of the Daily Kos and Bill Clinton's former Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin. In other words, The Democratic Party is dead and somebody has forgotten to bury the carcass. The GOP would really have to blow it to lose the next presidential contest. I place the odds to be minimally 80% in its favor. The Democrats could once count on earning support from cultural war liberals like Roger L. Simon, Glenn Reynolds, Megan McArdle, and Michael Totten. This is no longer the case. The war on terror is considered to be a much higher priority---and the dishonest pacifism of the Democrats is deemed unacceptable.
Is John Podhoretz correct to advance the cause of Rudy Giuliani? Whatever, I will leave that debate for others to argue. There is one thing I do know for sure: Secretary of State Condi Rice should be on the ticket as the VP candidate. She will attract a bare minimum of 25% of the Afro-American vote. Can anyone provide me with a realistic scenario where the Democrats can win nationally if this occurs? Anything over the single digits in the Republican column terrifies the Democratic Party establishment. I agree with the author that "It must be our goal to compel her to take a leadership role in her party at the earliest possible moment." Mrs. Clinton must not be allowed to mealy-mouth her positions. Indeed, "a transparent Hillary is probably an unelectable Hillary." This is an important book. One should never take anything for granted. The stakes are simply too high. A President Hillary Clinton would probably prove disastrous. And please don't let anyone delude you into believing that she is another Golda Meir or Margaret Thatcher. On the contrary, we would almost certainly begin losing our struggle against the Islamic nihilists. No, we need to take John Podhoretz's advice seriously. Please note that I even concede the junior senator from New York may have a 20% chance of being victorious. Long shots do occasionally win. That alone should scare you into action. For any possible future editions. Rudy Giulani, Podhoretz's choice for the one to stop Hillary Clinton in 2008, is rather weakly qualified. RG was only mayor of a city, yeah a large one like the author points out, but nonetheless being a mayor has fairly little in common with being a US president. Also, RG is the son of a Sing Sing convict (presidential candidate opponents of RG's would certainly hold that against him a lot). Also, that NYC police listed some crimes as non-crimes to get NYC's crime rate down.
On other matters the author mentions how Bin laden called the USA a paper tiger due to us all too easily pulling out of Beirut and Somalia in the 80's and late 90's. This is in support of the US going to full occupation-war against Iraq. Well done but mentioning Saddam's Anfal Campaign (his attempt at Kurdish genocide) would also have shown the validity of the Iraqi occupation. Plus, talking of Khadafi giving his nuke bomb project when he saw Saddam get taken down and feared he (Khadafi) would possibly next taken down would add support to the Iraqi occupation.
