4.0 out of 5 stars
Interesting Mix of Rhymes, Rythm, and the Riverfront,
By Nice Guy Eddy (St. Louis, MO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Can U Dig? (Audio CD)
Jive Turkey, the St. Louis based group, could be compared with Incubus or 311. They incorperate refreshing rhymes with jazzy guitars, drums, and horns. I sat on a curb in the University City Loop bobbing my head to their song "5 Cubed Strategy" and said, "these guys are good!" The hypnotic and repetitive guitar tunes blasted through the tarp that smothered the speakers, the low pitched sounds of a horn took over the microphone, and the excited Mathios threw energy and soul into his fast paced, but never the less intelligent rhymes. So why the 4 stars? I rested on the curb for a while pondering why, and then realized that I've heard it all before. Tom Waits tries to be Bob Dylan, and that doesn't nessacarily negate Waits of his brilliance, it just means that he will always be a star under Dylan. Therefore, while Incubus or 311 takes the gold, Jive Turkey will have to settle for the silver, but silver sounds almost as good as gold.
