Editorial Reviews

This record marks a new and energetic phase of Julie's solo career with some of her most upbeat and inspiring songs. Direct and painfully honest, she lays it all out in her lyrics while also being almost the happiest woman in town, loving life and raising her kids. In addition to this new perspective, she showcases a thick distortion and melodic pop not heard since her days with indie heroes Eric's Trip in the 90s.

This is the best Doiron solo album, and (perhaps not coincidentally) it's also the Doiron album that sounds most like her former band, Eric's Trip.

I was a fan of Eric's Trip back in their heyday, and I learned only a couple weeks ago about Doiron's solo albums. Since then, I've gone through her entire back catalogue. Each album is discernibly different from the others. Some are stripped-down, primarily acoustic works that were literally recorded in one day. Some are lush with production. One album features mostly French vocals.

This album stands head and shoulders above all the others. The album is perfectly balanced between loud songs and quiet songs. The loud, distorted guitars that were part of Eric's Trip's signature sound are back on several of the songs; the instrumentation is rough as ever around the edges, even while the production is stellar; and every single song is solid and beautiful.

It has a somewhat nineties sound but still somehow sounds timeless. Nothing fancy, just well done songs that play perfectly on beautiful weedend days when you have all the windows open and life is just good.

Shades of Sarah Harmer, shades of The Breeders, a bit of 90's sounds, a bit of 00's sound. I really liked this CD. The songs are well written and the songs are well produced.

I have to be honest. I fell in love with the song (living the life of dreams) played during the tv commercial. It's one of those that tend to just stay with you - hard to get it out of your head. It's so enjoyable.....easy listening and refreshing. Yes, it's a little short but who cares.......I just play it over and over. I quite like the other songs as well. It's a great find and am glad I purchased it.
