The ocean setting is part of the magic in this lyrical picture-book fantasy about a lonely girl who makes friends with a mermaid and then cannot let her go. Shy, solitary Eliza is close only with her fisherman dad. Then one day at the shore, she meets Freya, who gives Eliza a magical shell, and when Eliza puts the shell to her ear, she hears “songs so beautiful that they have to be shared.” Freya is a mermaid who wants to go back to her world beneath the sea, but she has lost her mirror and cannot return without it, so she stays with Eliza, longing for home. Then Eliza finds the mirror, but can she part with her beloved companion? The paintings, in ocean shades, are both glamorous and stormy, and show Eliza’s bond with the beautiful, glittery mermaid, as well as the raging seas and Freya’s grieving mother. correct wrong doings,

If you are after Mermaid stories this is a good one. It's about a girl Eliza who lives with her Dad and one day while her dad is off fishing Eliza finds a friend at the beach and discovers a Mermaid friend named Freya. Eliza is not so honest at the beginning and creates quite a stir for Freya as her intention is simply to gain a friend - and she need to realize her error and correct her wrong doings.
Nice story indeed.
