Yes, I hear The Myracle Brah,

Since '98 when the stunning Life On Planet Earthshop appeared, Andy Bopp has built up an impressive catalogue. This release is, again, not as brilliant as that debut but very solid and enjoyable. Great thing about Bopp besides being a great songwriter and musician is that he usually keeps things simple and is not afraid to rock out. Which is why this music, although clearly inspired by certain 60's bands, sounds fresh and vital and not anachronistic like many powerpop bands.
My favourite songs on "Can You Hear The Myracle Brah?" are First Kiss, Angeleen, Run To The Voices, You're Full Of Strangers and Walking On Water but all 15 songs are fine really.

Much of the first MB CD in four years -- a solo effort by Andy Bopp, but for drums and backing vocals -- feels like familiar territory ... and not in an altogether good way.
Parts are pleasant enough. The first three songs have a sweet Plate Spinner vibe and a couple of baubles are buried deep in the CD. But as a work, I found Can You Hear generally unfulfilling: heavier with filler than any Myracle Brah CD, sometimes derivative of earlier Bopp songs (notably "Angeleen") and kind of dreary (particularly "The Night Belongs to You" and the closer "You're My Heaven"). The most animated numbers are the centerpiece "Big Kids Wanna Rock" (which I liked better in its rawer pre-release mix) and "Walking On Water" (which sounds like a Treblemaker outtake and never quite delivers its promised punch). But nothing here compares with Bopp's past classics or suggests evolutions in his basic sound -- which 2002's adventurous if uneven Bleeder suggested were within both his grasp and inclination. Two and half stars. Maybe a collaborator would shake things up?
